The United States Air Force (USAF) has been deploying gift history in Menlo Park, California since the early 1960s. Menlo Park was founded in 1887 on the eastern edge of San Francisco by Morris and his brother, Charles. The brothers had started a fruit orchard and wanted to find a site that would make the most sense for their business. They chose a point on the Peninsula between San Francisco and Palo Alto so they could watch both cities grow. The original population of Menlo Park was just two people, Morris and his wife, Lillie Belle. In 1897, when Menlo Park became part of Berkeley, it had only 12 residents. By 1920, its population had grown to over 100 people. The first store in Menlo Park was opened in 1888 by Davenport & Goodwin as a grocery store. In 1902, John Sargent opened his own telegraph company here and began sending messages between Berkeley and Palo Alto using a new line built from cable cars running along Interstate 80. Soon other businesses followed suit: Atherton Dry Goods Company (1910), American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T) (1911), Newmark Coffee Roasters (1920), Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Menlo Park Store (1921). In 1932, AT&T merged with United States Radio Corporation to form Western Electric Corporation; Menlo Park became among the corporate campuses of WEC. That same year saw the opening of California Institute of Technology's first school in America — Stanford University's School of Engineering — which added 1,500 students to Menlo Park's total population that year alone! And then there were all the babies being born at Kaiser Permanente Hospital: In 1936 there were 422 births in MenloPark; by 1960 there were 1,849! With such an influx of people came high-density housing development: The old millrace system gave way to highly developed streetscapes today known as "Old Facebook" and "New Facebook". On November 14th, 1947 – seventy years ago this week – men from various parts of California gathered at what is now Memorial Stadium for what has come to be know as "the Golden Gate International Exposition", organized by President Harry Truman under the auspicesof UNESCO/FAO/IMF Hygiene Conference Plan No..2 for National Fair Trade Week 1948″This exposition represented one half million delegates from fifty nations who traveled through ten international zones during two weeks."
