The men also founded an insurance company and built a store on Market Street called The Mercantile Exchange. In 1865, they donated all their remaining property to the city for use as parkland. The original City Hall building was designed by Scottish architect John Nash and opened in 1865. It served as both City Hall and Municipal Courthouse until replaced by a new building designed by Philip Johnson in 1974–1975 which still stands today as part of First Interstate Center (FIC). In 1955, Mayor George Moscone dedicated portions of his lawn to commemorate San Francisco's 50th anniversary of incorporation as a city with streetscape designations including avenues such as Stevens Creek Boulevard/Avery Road (now University Avenue), Masonic Drive (now Donahue Drive), Market Street/First Avenue (now Van Ness Avenue), Masonic Drive/Masonic Way (now Masonic Place) and Polk Alley/1st Street West (now Scott Road). That same year saw the opening ofIntersectional Freeway 1-280 just north of town line between Daly City to the south and Palo Alto to the north
