The Millbrae United States Army National Guard Armory was built in 1941 to house the armories of the California, Nevada and Arizona National Guards. It served as such until 1992 when it was closed due to budgetary restrictions. The armory reopened in 1995 as a museum and has been used ever since for military exhibits, ceremonies and functions. The millbraearmory is now open to the public every day from 9am-4pm for $5; admission includes access to all of the museum’s galleries. The Millbrae Armory is one of only a few U.S.Army armories that still retains its original architecture and features including an original four-story turreted brick building with ornate ironwork doors, walls, turrets and gates. The armory also contains a number of rare vintage weapons which include cannons, rifles and pistols dating back to the Revolutionary War era. At this time, mills were being produced for both local consumption and international marketplaces such as Ford Motor Company and Shell Oil among others. The first television station in North America, KQED (later KCBS) started operations in 1951 out of an old textile plant across the street from Mills Corporation America Inc.. By 1970 over 80% of all flooring products sold through Macy's were made here including Furniture Row products like sofas and beds In 1990s, many large companies closed down their plants due to weak economic conditions throughout Northern California but despite this fact, mills continued to operate with some notable exceptions like Alcoa who reopened their Millbrae facility after leaving Southern Cali during that recession The current incarnation of Mills Corporation America Inc., which operates under the brand "Mills", has been around since 1991 when they purchased a former Lockheed Martin missile factory next door to their original headquarters building on MacArthur Boulevard South near Highway 12 downtown- becoming one of NorthAmerica’s leading industrial developers .
