Fresh roasted coffee first originated in Millbrae, CA in the early 1960s. The first true Italian-owned and -operated roaster was founded by Angelo Donzelli and Luigi Gentile. From their small business operation, they began to roast specialty coffees for a select few customers in the Millbrae area. Donzelli and Gentile were able to develop a unique blend of Arabica beans that became well known throughout the Bay Area for its smooth flavor, rich texture, and bright taste. In 1969, Donzelli opened his own shop on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco which started to serve fresh roasted coffee from his mills direct to consumers. In 1978, Donzelli sold his business to Gianfranco Venturi who continued the family-owned name with two additional shops across Northern California before finally closing all eight stores in 2003. during this time period, Venturi also served as President of Roasting Industry Association (RIA). Since then several other roasters have taken over the mantle of Donzello/Gentile's legacy including: The National Coffee Company (NCA), Ben & Jerry's Ice cream (B&J), Starbucks (SBUX), Peet's Coffee & Tea (PEPT) and Blue Bottle Coffee (BLC). Today there are over 100+ independent cafes serving fresh roasted coffee from around the world sourced directly from our originates mills.

The first coffee beans were roasted in Millbrae, California in 1885. The town was founded by entrepreneur John Sutter and his brother-in-law, George Miller, on the banks of the Sacramento River. They started a small grocery store and roast their own beans until 1895.
Millbrae is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. Millbrae is located on the eastern edge of Contra Costa County and is part of the Richmond– veto Heights Metropolitan Statistical Area. The mill that still stands in Millbrae was founded by John Sutter in 1867. It was closed in 1971 but reopened as a museum in 1994. The name "Millbrae" comes from the two hills that make up its outskirts: Mount Diablo to the east and Mill Creek to the west. According to one source, "the first European settlers named their hill [Mount] Diablo after Sir John Sutter's mill because they thought it would be easy for Indians to find." In 1868, Sutter built his own mill on what is now called Mount Diablo Boulevard just northeast of Millbrae High School. By 1870, he had started exporting flour and lumber to other parts of California and formed a partnership with James Irvine so they could operate two mills side by side on 50 acres (20 hectares). In 1871, when Leland Stanford became governor of California, he decided that Contra Costa County should have a terminus for railroad shipments so he bought out Irvine's share and donated property east of Interstate 80 between Alma Avenue and Blackhawk Road for a new station. At this point, most people in Contra Costa County took their goods north to San Francisco or south through Oakland or Berkeley before reaching Contra Costa County via rail. Consequently, no markers remain indicating where Main Street met Railroad Avenue near today's intersection of Alma Avenue and Blackhawk Road; instead only an old stone wall remains which indicates where Sutter Station once stood. The station opened on November 15th 1871 as "Sutterville". In 1895 it was renamed "Millbrae" after John Sutter's daughter-in-law Mrs.(Nancy) Jenson who ran it until her death in 1907 aged 78 years old. As word spread about how great things were being done at Millbrae Museum since opening doors five years earlier (much like how social media has helped grow Millsbree Museum), more people came into town which included many farmers from nearby rural areas who would bring their produce to Market Square outside the museum during lunchtime while also checking out exhibits inside during business hours (market square consisted of three storefronts with an adjacent restaurant). With more people coming into town center began attracting businesses away from downtown such as laundry services being moved next door to Third Street Bakery shortly afterwards followed by Butchers' Barn several blocks down on Second Street becoming known as The Butcher Shop later due much alike to its popularity for horse meat sales dating back over 100 years! Additionally some residences along Alma Ave including Mrs.(Lydia P.) McGee’s house were converted into hotels which continue operating today including Holiday Inn Express off Highway 680 just past Highway 513 exit #7A/Rancho Santa Fe Drive oppositeosite Walmart parking lot! By 1937 there were six hotels open along Alma Ave., four restaurants/bars (all within walking distance from each other), twenty-four stores catering mostlyto farm wives buying supplies such as seed corn etc., movie theaters (six located throughout town center - one near Third Street Bakery), post office service with two mailboxes large enoughto hold packages 4x6 inches deep next door each weekdays 6am-10pm weeknights plus Saturday morning 8am-noon; telephone service availablewith Edison Telephone Company line running directly across street corner from grocery store frontage Saturday morning 8am-noon thru Friday night 10pm daily; water main laid under streets leading up Mt Diablo Blvd.; electric light installed December 7th 1935 On April 20th 1938 all these amenities merged into one big building when Southern Pacific Railroad extended their electrified tracks southeastwardfrom Pittsburg Junction through Millbrae then northeastwardinto Menlo Park owned by SP Railroads division forming Palo Alto Division mainline making possible organized entertainment events featuring vaudeville acts at various places throughout Saturday afternoon amphitheater type atmosphere - see photo below shows sectional seating arrangement within amphitheater type atmosphere during early 1940’s performance season

These people would roast their own beans and then store them away to use at a later date. Freshly roasted beans were also popularized by Arabs who wanted to try different flavors of coffee from all over the world. By the end of the 1800s, fresh ground coffee had become so popular that machines began becoming available which allowed you to roast your own beans yourself! This made life much easier for those who desired quality caffeine than buying it pre-packaged from a store or café!

The millinery industry was the dominant force of the community for many years, until it disappeared during the Depression. Today, Millbrae is a quiet residential community with a shopping center and several schools. The millinery industry played an important role in Millbrae's history, and its location made it an attractive place to produce lingerie and other fashion items.
Millbrae was first settled in 1853 by James Irvine and his wife Eliza. They named their farm "Millbrae" after the mill they built on the property. TheIrvine mill was renamed the Irvine Manufacturing Company in 1906. In 1916, the company merged with several other companies to form American Cyanamid Inc. The Millbrae area experienced a large population growth during World War II, as many people from nearby San Francisco moved to Millbrae to work in the new plant construction projects that were under way. The war led to an increase in traffic on local roads and also created shortages of housing near mills, which caused prices for homes to increase significantly. In 1967, American Cyanamid merged with British-owned Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) to form British American Cyanamid Limited (BACL). As part of this merger, BACL assumed control over all of ICI's research and development activities within North America. This move made Millbrae one of the main research centers for BACL products throughout North America.
