Millbrae, California is a small town in Marin County, California. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Millbrae is located on the San Francisco Peninsula and is east of Sausalito. Millbrae was founded by the Gold Rush miners in 1858 as a small community called "Newbern." In 1870, the name was changed to "Millbrae" after John C. Millarrao, owner of a sawmill in what is now Redwood City. The mill closed in 1954 and its buildings were used as storage until they were sold to Kaiser Permanente in 1962. Millbrae has been home to many different businesses including two ISPs (Pacific Bell and Western Union) and two banks (First National Bank and Northern Trust). It also became known for its annual world's fair which takes place every fall since 1907.

Millbrae is a small town located in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 8,362 at the 2010 census. Millbrae is part of the Richmond-Fremont-Hayward Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the eastern edge of Contra Costa County and borders Richmond on the south, Fremont on the east, and Walnut Creek to the north. Millbrae was founded in 1868 by John Davenport and his brother Charles Davenport as a small agricultural community named Woolen Mills. In 1870, John Davenport married Sarah Atherton and their first child was born in Millbrae. In 1876, John Davenport began manufacturing flour from wheat that he had save from milling operations in Concordia, Minnesota. The flour became known as "Davenport Flour" and was sold throughout Northern California until 1902 when it moved to Livermore City, California because of its high quality. By 1886, Davenport had built a mill with a capacity of 10 million pounds per year for grinding corn into meal and Feed No. 1 for livestock production; this made him one of the largest flour producers in Northern California The Post Office at Millbrae opened on October 12th 1887 under name "Woolen Mills". The first postmaster was Mrs Minerva Barker who served until 1890 when she became postmistress at nearby Danville In 1907 an addition to the original mill site (the present day Old Mill Library) were added to house an additional 590 looms which produced articles such as cloth napkins and towels etc.. These looms continued operation until 1951 when they were replaced by electric looms On February 3rd 1914 during World War I Japan bombed American Naval forces at Dewey Canyon near San Francisco Bay killing over sixty sailors including Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison who later wrote: "At about 2 P .M., Japanese bombers came down low over us , bombing constantly with dead or wounded aboard their machines .. It seemed almost like seeing an avenging angel" This raid caused great damage to both US Naval Facilities near Oakland Naval Air Station (NOAS) which housed many battleship squadron components including USS Wyoming (BB-36), USS Hyperion (CV-2), USS Constitution CV-11(1896), USS Oregon (BB-15), USS Arizona BB-67) while also damaging several warehouses used by both American civilians involved with munitions storage ashore as well as ammunition carriers moored offshore In 1916 shore bombardment guns were redeployed towards NOAS after years of experimentation led by Rear Admiral George Halsey Commander Ninth Fleet Segundo Beach Squadron who soon realized that these guns could be successfully employed against submarines using only artillery rather than ships gunfire alone A submarine threat which persisted until 1945 resulted from minesweepers operating off shore along estuary front shipping lanes between Sacramento–San Joaquin Counties - waters off Point Conception - discharging hundreds of mines each day without warning coastal communities collecting mud cores from various locations that yielded evidence pertaining to suspected submarines
The Millbrae post office was established in 1884, and remained in operation until it closed in 1959. The mill that now stands on the site of the original post office was built in 1881 by the brothers Elisha and Amos Emerson. It was used for a time as a flour mill, but became a cotton gin after being enlarged. The mill produced cottonseed oil until it closed in 1951.
