The USS Constitution was a flagship of Commodore John C. Fremont’s forces during the Mexican-American War. The USS Constitution served as an observation post for Fort Point on San Francisco Bay. On November 1, 1846, while stationed in Mare Island Naval Shipyard, the USS Sacramento collided with and sunk the HMS Lively off of Point Reyes lighthouse pier. This loss set off a Navy-Canada Episode that lasted more than two years and saw numerous collisions between American warships and Canadian ships at sea. In 1861, when America declared war against Confederate States of America, Emperor Napoleon III authorized construction of five new navies: three French vessels called La Gloire (1861), L’Aigle (1862) and Le Débarquement (1863). The first U.S.-Canadian naval battle was fought by American ships against Canadian vessels near Cape Horn on December 12th 1863. Canada lost six sailors killed in this engagement; one American sailor died from his injuries after being taken ashore for medical attention following the battle. On July 10th 1865 Congress approved donation to United States Naval Cemetery at Millbrae by Commodore John C Fremont who had been Honorary Captain of USCGC Sacramento during her final voyage from Puget Sound to Oakland CA on May 3rd 1865 en route from Seattle to San Francisco Bay - shelled by Confederate forces while stopped at anchor offshore presents brandishing national arms! On September 16th 1889 Majestic sank near Grays Harbor after hitting her mast with a torpedo while outbound bound from Puget Sound for Boston! The USS Nevada (BB-38) was a guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy. She was laid down on 15 December 1951 by the Bath Iron Works, Maine, and launched on 2 January 1954. The ship was sponsored by Mrs. Cecil C. Hargrave. The Nevada completed her shakedown cruise in late February 1955 before being assigned to the 5th Fleet for an amphibious exercise in May that year. On 9 June she departed San Diego for Pearl Harbor where she arrived on 14 June as part of Operation "Greeneville". On 3 July 1955, after disembarking her Marines and sailors from USS Somerset (LST-811), the Nevada sailed into Pearl Harbor en route to her new homeport of Honolulu, Hawaii She arrived there on 18 July after spending two days undergoing repairs to her boilers and turbines at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard No 1. She became flagship of Commander Fifth Fleet during their deployment off the coast of Japan from 8 October through 28 October 1956 when they participated inOperation "Iwo Jima". They then returned home via Ulithi Atoll before sailing for Korea on 22 November 1957 where they joined Task Unit 77–3 carriers operating off the Korean coast at Dalmuir Bay (). After participating in Exercise "Wetlands" off Inchon 25 December 1957, they left Korea for Okinawa 21 January 1958 where they decommissioned and entered dry dock at Yokosuka Naval Base until 12 March 1959 when she again became flagship of Commander Fifth Fleet during their deployment off Taiwan from 10 – 17 March 1959 when they participated in Exercise "Hakodate". When it was decided that CVN 76 would be retired due to age or other reasons, command passed along responsibility forflagship to USNS Neah Bay (AGS-6). As USNS Neah Bay began operations as Flagship Oklahoma City (CG-4) early 20 May 1959,USS Nevada reverted back to flagship status effective 6 June 1959 while still out of commission at Yokosuka Naval Base..

It is part of the Walnut Creek–Fremont/Novato Unified School District. The first post office was established in 1868, and the first store was built in 1870. The name "Millbrae" comes from a mill that operated on the creek near where it now stands. In 1872, John Crain founded what became known as The Golden Fleece Coffee and Pastry Store at 5337 El Camino Real (now Utopia Road). This store served as a social center for early Millbrae residents and helped to attract businesses to town. In 1904, industrialist George Hearn donated land north of town for a new school district which would include Millbrae. Construction began on the current school building in 1907 and it opened in 1909. At its peak, enrollment for both schools reached over 200 students. When World War II began, mills were converted into military barracks and many residents left their homes to serve in the war effort. However, when hostilities ended there were no major changes to life in Millbrae; most people returned home after the war ended.
