The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the community in Milpitas, California on December 6, 1914. The gift was an air force aircraft and its crew of pilots and officers. The plane was brought in for use by the local police department as a law enforcement tool. It served until 1922 when it was retired from service. In 1938, the air force station in Milpitas donated an experimental jet fighter aircraft to the town. This airplane served as the basis for many of the jet fighters that are now used by the USAF. In 1966, a new hangar was built at the airport in Milpitas which housed two F-111A Super Hornets from Lockheed Martin Corporation. These planes have been used extensively during Operation Neptune Spear and Desert Storm.

The history of the United States Air Force deployments to Milpitas, California goes back to World War II. The air force first deployed here in 1949 as a result of the Cold War. From then until 1992, when it was disbanded, the air force stationed here at bases such as Edwards AFB and Vandenberg AFB. In1992, the air force was re-established and moved its HQ from Sacramento to Milpitas. The base has played an important role in both military aviation and technology development since it opened its doors. It is home to two main wings: The 9th Wing which provides combat support for NATO missions; and the 54th Wing which does research and development for USAF systems.
Milpitas is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 3,686 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Joaquin Valley. The town was founded in 1887 by miners who were coming down from Sacramento to prospect for gold. The first post office opened in 1892, and the first store open in 1893. By 1902, there were six churches and twenty-four businesses. In 1912, an irrigation canal was built through the town, and it became known as "the tomato capital of America." In 1915, World War I began, and Milpitas become a base for soldiers going off to fight on various fronts around the world. After the war ended, many of the old mining communities closed up shop because they couldn't compete with new mines being developed in nearby Fresno and Stockton. However, Milpitas has never been idle; over the years it has had a number of businesses such as restaurants, stores, schools (including one high school that offers college courses), a hospital (Milpitas Regional Medical Center), and even a movie theater (the Regal Cinema). In recent years there has also been some growth in technology industries such as information technology and biotech; however much of this growth has yet to translate into major employment opportunities locally or statewide.

The USAF deployed gift history to the public in 1946. The USAF activated Gift History Program on December 12, 1946 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of World War II. This program was part of the Air Force Reserve Command's effort to provide a tribute to military members and their families who had served during the war. The first gift history report was published on January 1, 1947. As gift history continued to grow, it became apparent that there were many areas in which individuals could contribute to the development of this program. In 1984, a new section was added to the website called "Gift History Archives." This section provides donors with additional information about their donations and helps preserve donor memories of the AFGP.
Milpitas was a small agricultural town in the Mojave Desert of southern California. Situated on the San Joaquin River, it was founded by Don José Altamirano in 1853 as an adobe and brush fortification to protect his land from Comanche and Apache raiders. The town grew steadily over the next century, becoming a popular summer destination for vacationers and farmers alike. In 1924, Milpitas became part of the newly formed County of Los Angeles, which would later become one of America's most diverse regions. The economy of Milpitas changed dramatically during the late 20th century, however, as automobiles became more prevalent and industry shifted from agriculture to manufacturing. Today, Milpitas is home to a number of high-tech companies and many large families who haveowned or operated businesses here for decades. The town remains an important center for education and healthcare in southeastern California; its public schools are among the best in Los Angeles County.
Milpitas was founded in 1853 by Jose Maria Martinez and his brother Manuel. The town was named for Miguel Hidalgo, the first president of Mexico. The area that now makes up Milpitas was first populated by Native American Indians. In 1853, Martinez and Manuel built a small post office on the edge of what is now Milpitas Mesa. They also opened a store to sell goods brought over from San Francisco. In 1855, Milpitas became an independent municipality with its own government. From 1870 to 1896, it was part of the United States Territory of Alta California. After California became a state in 1850, Milpitas continued to be part of San Francisco County until it was annexed by Pasadena in 1893. On July 1, 1912, the City of Milpitas merged with the Township of Santa Clara to form a new city block called "Milpitas." On November 15, 1922- three years after incorporation- the City Council voted unanimously to change its name from "Milpitas" to "Palo Alto." In 1938 Palo Alto residents began protesting against local Nazi Party members who were using their community as an administrative center for their activities in Germany during World War II. A boycott of all Palo Alto products started and lasted until 1945 when things calmed down enough for people to start talks about resolution or expulsion of those Nazi party members from the community
