Milpitas coffee began as a small, independent roastery in the heart of Silicon Valley. In 1984, founder and president Rick Seligman and his team opened The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Milpitas - the first American-owned and operated coffee shop in Silicon Valley. From its inception, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf served quality coffee made fresh on-site from beans roasted by Rick Seligman himself. Today, the store continues to offer classic café fare like sandwiches and pastries as well as exciting new offerings like espresso drinks and smoothies.
Milpitas, California is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of Southern California. The population was 27,599 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Tulare-Merced Metropolitan Statistical Area. Milpitas is home to two universities: The University of California, Davis and Caltech. The history of Milpitas dates back to 1853 when John Crain set up a post on Rancho Conchita in present day Milpitas. In 1870, James Fenton established tannery and cattle ranch near what is now the downtown area of Milpitas. By 1900, there were 10 businesses operating in downtown Milpitas with a population of 100. In 1911, Alameda Mills opened its doors here as one of the first mills in northern California employing women for labor in industry rather than being married off to men who worked at other mills. In 1916, three brothers founded Guggenheim Paper Company which became one of North America's leading paper companies with operations throughout Northern and Western Europe including branches in London and Amsterdam. The company left Millitasa after World War II due to rising costs associated with defense production but continued business until it merged into Allied Paper Products Incorporated (APPI) in 1984 as one among many paper products manufacturers consolidation across several industries during the late 1980s recession that hit western economies hard worldwide. During the same time period that APPI went through large restructuring changes resulting from an increase competition from Asian firms introduced by then CEO Howard Anderson - another brother emeritus bought out his brother's shareholding giving him total ownership making him CEO for life - local residents organized themselves into their first city councilmember representing only themselves instead of all residentry living within walking distance thereof until 1990 when they moved their headquarters to Downtown Santa Clara County despite never having annexed any property outside their own borders within City Limits ever since! Milpitas, California is a small town in Monterey County, California. The population was 5,702 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The name Milpitas comes from Rancho Los Nietos and it was given to the town by Horace Livermore in 1868. At the time, his familyowned a large rancho that stretched from Monterey County to Bolsa Chica and included what is now Milpitas. In 1881, Livermore sold his share in Rancho Los Nietos to John Davenport who renamed it Nutshell Valley after one of his holdings there. The name stuck until 1918 when it changed again - this time to its current form, Milpitas. In addition to its namesake valley, Milpitas has numerous small businesses and cultural attractions including an art museum (theFAULT Museum), three high school schools (Albany High School, Eastside High School, and Westside High School), a Veterans Affairs Medical Center (#1 on the list of largest veterans hospitals in the United States), two shopping malls (One Stop mall and Jack London Square mall), as well as many smaller businesses. Some nearby neighborhoods include Oceanside and Pacific Beach which have become popular tourist destinations for surfing and boating; Fremont has become home to major tech companies; Pleasanton is known for its agricultural products; Saratoga Springs is known for its mineral springs; Woodland Hills includes several golf courses; Last Chance Gulch contains a number of caves used for filming purposes such as "Ender's Game".
Milpitas is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It was founded in 1887 by lumber baron John P. Morgan and his partner George W. Richardson as a small town on the banks of the Rancheros River. The population was 14,592 at the 2010 census. The city's first post office opened in 1887 and its first store was built on what is now First Street. In 1886, Morgan donated land to make way for an LDS church building and Milpitas became one of the few cities west of the Rockies that accepted Mormon missionaries. In 1895, Victoria Woolridge married John Payson Fenton and moved to Milpitas with him; they were the first black couple to live in Milpitas. They raised four children there: Gladys (1909-1992), Vernon (1911-1994), Joyce (b 1912), and Herbert (b 1915). From 1916 until her death in 1992, Woolridge served as mayor pro tempore of Milpitas City Council; she also taught high school history from 1937 until her death. Fenton died suddenly at age 77 on July 15, 1966; Woolridge continued to serve as president pro tempore until her death two years later on November 5th due to a heart attack brought about by long hours working at City Hall combined with excessive stress from her role as mayor pro tempore during Fenton's final weeks alive
