During the Mexican-American War (1846-48), General Smith's rancho came into conflict with Mexico. As a result, he ordered his men to burn down some Mexican villages near his rancho. This act helped create an animosity between the United States and Mexico which would continue to play out through the years. In 1851, General Jose Joaquin Cervecera became governor of California after winning the Mexican presidential election on May 2nd of that year. He announced his intention to annex Santa Clara County into California before leaving for Washington D.C., but this idea was vetoed by President James K Polk due to its annexation implications for Texas). On October 15th of that year, Major General Donelson Sibley arrived in San Luis Obispo County to survey land grants for future missions at what is now known as Rancho Rinconada (later Mission San José de Arroyito). Upon completing his survey, Sibley notified Governor Cervecera that he had found 640acre site within Milpitas proper capable of supporting a mission - this news set off an immediate frenzy among locals who were eager to establish their own religious community on new land they had discovered! A group of local businessmen formed the "Milpitas Company" in 1852 to purchase property from Governor Cervecera and build a chapel and other ecclesiastical infrastructure on behalf of Mission Arroyito/Rinconada; construction began soon thereafter! In response to interest from both secular (the desire for economic development) as well as religious communities (the hope for temple access), one Milpitas store owner even donated 5 acres adjacent to his business district in order provide space for another church! Hogg claimed Rancho Arroyito along with 3 square miles (~6 km²) around it – making it one of only two parcelsized land claims made during this era! Milpitas, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. It is located about 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Fresno and 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Stockton. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,883. The name Milpitas comes from Spanish meaning "watercourse" or "stream." The first Europeans to visit what is now Milpitas were miners who came down the Kern River in 1847 for gold. They named their new settlement after General Antonio López de Santa Clara, Commander-in-Chief of Mexican forces at the battle of Buena Vista on December 6, 1847. The first post office was established in 1849. By 1860, there were nine businesses in Milpitas with a total population of 294 people. In 1861, George Waddell opened up an ammunition store in downtown Milpitas and soon became one of local leaders in early American commercial life. In 1865 he founded Waddell & Richardson Malt House which remains open today as one of the oldest malt houses west of the Mississippi River. In 1870 he married Emma Juhl and together they founded what would becomeMilpitas High School and built many more homes over time including several that still stand today including Old Mill Village Circle., also known as Pioneer Towne Square., which is home to many historical landmarks dating back to when Milpitas was a small community consisting primarily of adobe buildings clustered around a square commons area called Pioneer Towne Square

Wright in 1887 as a small farming community on the east side of San Francisco Bay. In 1955, Milpitas became an incorporated town and then a city in 1989. On October 9, 1887, a group of farmers from Milpitas pooled their resources and bought the 10,000-acre Rancho San Rafael for $10,000. The ranch was located in north central California near Redding and Modesto. It was part of what is now the Silicon Valley area. The first settlers on the ranch were Captain John Sutter and his men who arrived on horseback in October 1887. They were followed by others over the next few months with more families coming as they found land to purchase or rent. In December, 1888, it was announced thatCalifornians George Hearst and James J. Hill had purchased the Rancho San Rafael from its original owners for $50,000 cash plus 550 acres (220 hectares). Hearst and his brother William started building a small vineyard and winery onsite in 1889 which became one of Northern California's most successful businesses. The hill family also acquired an adjacent parcel of land called El Dorado Hills which produced fruit trees such as palm trees and apples for shipment to markets around the Bay Area. In 1893 Californian Andrew Smith leased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) of property east of Highway 17 between San Bruno Mountain Road and Interstate 280 for 20 years with full title to it remaining with Hearst until he died in 1957; Hearst then passed it down to his two sons before passing it along to Nancy Hearst Albright who married Harry Ransom Jr., son of American film producer Samuel Goldwyn Sr.. In 1926 Nancy Hearst Albright donated 4 acres (1 ha) south of her parents' house at 8600 Stevenson Drive (now part of Palo Alto University) to Stanford University so that their father's Alma mater could continue doing research there into early American history
