The first U.S. Army soldiers who arrived in Mission Viejo were Major General John C. Frémont and his 1st Battalion, California Volunteers on November 17, 1846. The battalion was mustered into the army on December 2, 1846 and served until May 8, 1847 when they left for Sacramento. On July 10, 1850 a company of U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton landed at San Pedro Bay near present-day Mission Viejo to help suppress a Mexican uprising against Spanish rule in Southern California. The Marines served through the year but disbanded on October 15 because of funding cuts within the navy which affected all military units except those under Commodore George Dewey’s command at Manila Bay where their services continued until September 29,1852 when they sailed for California with Dewey’s squadron.) In 1853 Captain Charles Humboldt led a party of men from Santa Cruz overland to Mission Viejo in order to found what would eventually become Sutter’s Fort there; this event is known as the founding of Mission Viejo). In 1862 Lieutenant Colonel Jens Ludwig von Hornbostel organized and led an expedition up San Juan River to survey land north of Los Angeles County while American forces were fighting Mexico City; this event is also known as the discovery of Rancho Verdugo (now part of downtown LA).
Mission Viejo, California is a city in southern Ventura County, California. The population was 119,813 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Mission Viejo was founded in 1821 by Franciscan missionaries under the leadership of Father Junípero Serra. The original name for the town was Siuslaw Landing because it lay on the site of an ancient Pomo settlement called Siuslaw Lake. The mission and community were renamed Mission San Gabriel Arcángel in 1845 after Mexican president Nicolás de la Hoz granted land to Spanish settlers at that location in order to populate what had been known as Tierra del Fuego. In 1847, some of those settlers petitioned for independence from Mexico and formed a new republic named Californias Republic under Captain José Antonio Encinas y Arellano; this is when Mission San Gabriel became known as Mission Santa Gertrudis de Jesús de Olivas y Caballeros (St. George's Cathedral). In 1865, Church authorities abandoned Mission Santa Gertrudis due to lack of finances and transferred ownership to Rancho Verde Mexican Land Grantee José Gomez; however, cattle branding continued until 1870 because landowners could not afford it without contributing capital to improvements such as roads and baths. baptized thereon are: José Gomez (1865-1937), Joaquin Castro (born 1961), Bernardo Reyes (born 1932) In 1892 began construction of El Camino Real which linked Los Angeles with both Sacramento and San Francisco overland via Stockton; this event marked completion of Alameda Road which ran through present-day downtownMission Viejo prior to its reopening as First Street in 1912 A major fire destroyed most buildings within Mission Viejo on December 6, 1906 following a lightning strike during a storm; five people died and many were injured restoration began immediately with donations from friends including Jock Lindsey who had built his own home just east of town near Highway 101 A few years later on November 25th 1909 another devastating fire broke out that consumed much property but left no permanent damage done

Mission Viejo, California is a city located in Orange County, California. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 127,351. Mission Viejo was founded in 1777 by Franciscan missionaries under Spanish colonial rule. The mission was destroyed by an earthquake in 1857 and again by fire in 1906. A new mission was founded on the same site in 1913 and named after St. John the Baptist. It served as the spiritual center of Orange County until its closure in 1984. In 1992, Mission Viejo formed part of the City of Irvine when it became one of four cities that were merged into that city. The first European settlers to arrive in what is now Orange County were Mexicanphase cowboys who called themselves "Los Padres" or "the fathers." They discovered Rancho Santa Ana de Anza (later Rancho Atascadero) on July 29, 1828 while traveling from Monterey to Cupertino on horseback and mule back overland from Sonoma County. The Presidio Real de San Diego would be established two days later at Point Conception adjacent to Rancho Santa Ana de Anza and east of present-day Mission Viejo on January 17, 1829 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena with Captain Fernando Vallejo as his guide and Lt.-Governor José Joaquín De Arce as military commander). In 1830 Coyote Pass was reached by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his party from San Francisco on their way northward along what is now Interstate 5 through Paso Robles Canyon; this route has been followed by motorists ever since! On February 14 Nicolas Gilroy landed at what is now Reykjavik Cove on Point Reyes Peninsula near today's Petaluma Bay (Bodega Bay), becoming the first European settler in North America! On October 24, 1831 Father Junípero Serra arrived with five friars at nearby Mactan Village which he built about three miles south-southwest of where Mission San José stands today. By December 1st all but one member of Father Serra’s original expedition had joined him at Mactan Village; only one – Father Pedro Ferreyra – returned home sick after journeying overland from Acapulco without encountering any hostile Native Americans! The only significant event during this time period occurred when San Francisco Gov.(George Granville) issued orders to march 50 men against Tuliaquilacoaque Indians west of Sayre Valley some 25 miles northeastward across today’s Eureka Valley! Although no action was taken these orders represented perhaps one of the most controversial decisions made during Californios’ Alta California Republic era...it did little more than result in numerous skirmishes between Comanches and Mexicans across what are now Modoc Indian Country throughout much of Contra Costa County!!! Mission Viejo was founded in 1797 as a mission in the Rancho Santa Margarita Mexican land grant. The mission served as an agricultural center and religious center for the Gold Rush era. In 1847, the California State Legislature authorized Mission San Diego de Alcalá to be built on the site of Mission Viejo. The first settlers arrived in 1848 and began construction of the original church and school. On July 26, 1850, the mission was dedicated by Governor Manuel Nieto with Rev. José Antonio Vargas officiating. The population of Mission San Diego de Alcalá reached 571 in 1860 and it became part of Imperial County when Californias admission into the United States occurred that year. In 1862, work began on converting Mission San Diego de Alcalá into a military post to support Ulysses S. Grant during his campaign for president against Abraham Lincoln. The post was abandoned after only three months due to lack of funding; however, portions of it remain today as part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area
