The Mission Viejo shop that I am writing about is one of my favorite stores because it has a unique history. The store was founded in 1978 by Rick Gass and his wife, Peggy. The couple started out selling local produce from their garden and soon realized that they had something special on their hands when they began selling coffee. They quickly gained popularity for their delicious coffee and started serving customers all over town. Rick became known as the founder of Mission Viejo's first artisan coffee shop, and he still resides at the store today with his wife Peggy as co-owners. The store has been closed for only one year but during that time it has seen heavy turnover due to its passionate following by locals and tourists alike. I believe that the history of this particular mission is indicative of how much passion there is behind every cup of coffee enjoyed by anyone who visits America's most popular city. From start to finish, everything from the grinds used in each cup to the flavors applied are cared for hand-selected with precision according to each individual's preference. The first coffee shop in Mission Viejo, California opened its doors in 1964. The Shop at 7th and Mission Streets served a mixture of local and national brands such as Peruvian Roast and Dutch Shell. In the early days, the coffee beans were brought in by truck from Peru. In 1978, Bob's Coffee began operations in an old industrial building on Seventh Street near Interstate 5. At that time, Bob was the only roaster in town and he roast his own beans. He also bought local produce to sell at his store. Today, Bob's Coffee is one of the longest-running independent businesses in town with over 30 years of tradition!
Mission Viejo, California is a city in Orange County, California. The population was 102,826 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Orange County after Santa Ana and it is also the most populous city between Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. Mission Viejo is located on the San Gabriel River. The first Europeans to set foot in present-day Mission Viejo were Rancho Santiago de Aguayo Mexican Californios on January 8 of 1778 when Father José Crespo used his land grant from mission chapels La Purísima Concepción and San Juan Capistrano to establish a pueblo called Encinas del Arroyo ( afterwards known as Alhambra) about 12 miles east of what is now downtown Mission Viejo. Alonso Rivera, an early settler, built a small house on what became Miramar Drive in 1821. In 1846 Padres Francisco Pico and Manuel Nieto organized the Presidio of Los Angeles over what was then part of Mexico Townships Cahuilla and Riverside counties; Los Angeles proper became part of that presidio on February 14, 1847. The town site for Mission San Fernando Rey de Encarnación – including present day downtownMission Viejo – was chosen by commissioners from both jurisdictions on April 16 of that year because it had been uninhabited for more than three years due to strong hills in this location which prevented development or trade with nearby Southern California settlements.. In 1850 Juan Bautista Alvarado established Rancho Los Alamos within Ventura County where he raised cattle until his death in 1865; his ranch passed into military hands following General John Woolridge's ejection from California during the Mexican-American War. In 1876 Mexican citizen Antonio Bandini founded Villa Park adjacent to Alvarado's property northeast of downtownLos Angeles; Bandini named it after himself while living near Rancho Los Alamos prior to its incorporation into Villa Park/Alhambra City Limits as a municipality on December 13, 1886 A key event leading up to America's entry into World War I took place here when American Marines landed troops ashore at Point Mugu aboard USS "Hinckley" November 15th 1918 for Operation Overland - their first major overseas action

Mission Viejo was founded in 1769 by Father Junípero Serra and his assistant, José de Alcalá. The mission was the first of nine Gadsden Missions, each of which were established in response to Spanish efforts to spread Catholicism throughout California. In 1821, after Mexican independence was proclaimed, the missions were secularized and their lands became part of Mexico. However, the town that grew up around them—now known as Mission Viejo—remains an important cultural and commercial center for Southern California. The first Europeans to visit what is now Mission Viejo were traders from Chile who settled there in 1810. In 1812 a group led by Juan Bautista de Anza explored present-day Orange County and discovered Mission San Diego de Asís (later Santa Ana). On March 26, 1814, Father Fernando Rivera related this event to King Hispanic Francisco Ximénez at Monterey Gulf on the Pacific Coast of North America. With Anza's death in battle at Palo Alto on January 12, 1815, leadership passed to Rivera. On September 25, 1830 Governor Manuel Micheltorena ordered military reinforcements be sent toote San Gabriel Mountains because of reports that ALIQUISTES (a band of Indians) had taken over parts of southern California including Mission Viejo and Monterey Bay (). The expedition under General Antonio Loma arrived at Monterey on October 8th with 749 men but found no evidence whatsoever that ALIQUISTES had ever been near or within easy range of any Western settlement in California.– Lt. Col George Custer reported: “Albuquerque says he has seen nothing but cattle all along this coast; he knows not where these Indians came from” Nonetheless General Loma set out with 1st Battalion militia commanded by Colonel John Sutter on November 2nd into waist-deep water upriver from modern day downtown Mission Viejo when they sighted what they thought was an immense body oforses grazing on white man's land.– Upon reaching shore they realized it was only a small herd of horses– After verifying it was indeed an animal farm belonging to Pacheco Adobe owner José Murillo they advanced back downstream without further incident.– A failed attempt during winter Siege Of Los Angeles ended with 5 Californian soldiers drowned when their boats capsized trying reach supplies above Cabrillo River
