The Coast Guard has been in Mission Viejo, California since 1879. The first coast guard station was established at the mouth of the Arroyo Seco River. The present day Coast Guard Station is located on Harbor Drive in Mission Viejo. In 1915, the first organized service within the Coast Guard was created with a unit called "The Lighthouse Auxiliary." This auxiliary was responsible for maintaining and operating all lighthouses within Los Angeles County. In 1951, the Lighthouse Auxiliary was renamed "The Coast Guard" and its mission became to protect coastal communities and property from marauding submarines and other threats. In 1969, The Coast Guard began providing support for local fire departments by donating fuel, tools, trucks and manpower to help these departments fight fires. Today, The Coast Guard provides mutual aid services to more than 2,000 volunteer agencies across Southern California. Each year our community partners receive over $1 million in donated goods and services from our community partners!

The Coast Guard gift history in Mission Viejo, California dates back to the early 1900s. The Coast Guard has always been a major supporter of local communities and has contributed many important items, including equipment and tools, to support law enforcement and emergency response efforts.
Mission Viejo is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 77,563 at the 2010 census. The Mission Viejo Oaks shopping center is home to the first Sears store opened in North America outside of Europe and Japan. The city of Mission Viejo was founded on May 24, 1853 by Father Francisco de la Costa and brothers José and Manuel Fontana as part of Rancho San Juan Capistrano Mexican land grant. It was named for St. John's Parish in Los Angeles County which had been founded in 1777 by Franciscan missionaries as part of the Spanish missions system. In 1907, a group of businessmen led by bankeralph Carchia bought Rancho Santa Ana from Pedro Vargas for $2 million (). They renamed it "Mission Viejo" after their hometown of Villanova, Pennsylvania (now Scranton). In 1916, they sold the entire ranch to J P Morgan & Co., who developed it into an auto manufacturing powerhouse that employed more than 12,000 people until World War II. The Mission Viejo area became increasingly popular with retirees starting in the early 1960s as new freeway construction began around downtownLos Angeles; many homes were built near freeways to take advantage of convenient access to jobs and services inside Los Angeles or eastward into Orange County. This suburbanization also increased property values throughout much of southern Orange County due to easy access to good schools and job opportunities. As development continued along I-5 south from downtownLos Angeles over Interstate 10 until eventually reaching San Diego State University – now known as UCSD – there was little major change taking place within Mission Viejo itself other than increasing population density (the city has an estimated 715 people per square mile compared to Greater Los Angeles' 1,815). However since 2000 when I-5 was rerouted through Downtown Los Angeles making way for new high-rise apartments and office towers including One Financial Center (), some residents have started calling themselves "I-5 natives", while others continue to call themselves simply "mission viejeros". Despite this renameable phenomenon (), most residents still identify as Californians born or raised within the borders of Orange County
In 1915, the Coast Guard was created as a result of a series of acts by the New York State Legislature. The first purpose of the Coast Guard was to protect people and property on the New York state coastline. In 1922, Lieutenant George C. Halsey became the first Coast Guard officer to swim across Niagara Falls. The Coast Guard has been responsible for providing law enforcement and humanitarian assistance on Long Island since 1923. In 1942, the Coast Guard established its own aviation unit to provide support for military operations in World War II. The Coast Guard also operates many boats including those used in Search and Rescue, Customs Protection, fisheries patrol and other scientific missions. Since its inception, the Coast Guardsmen have shown their resolve through service during times of crisis such as Hurricane Sandy in 2012 or Hurricane Irma in 2017. Today, there are over 4500 members who serve aboard more than 350 vessels along America’s coasts providing support to both local law enforcement officers and emergency response responders when called out
The United States Coast Guard was founded on Jan. 6, 1790 as a result of the First Continental Congress’ resolution that declared all rivers and seas within the United States federal property. The first commissioned officer in the Coast Guard was midshipman John Thomas Gaffney.
Mission Viejo was founded in 1771 as a result of the Spanish Colonial Mission system. The mission is located on the San Diego Peninsula, about 20 miles south of downtown San Diego and 10 miles north of Point Loma. In 1821, Mexico gained independence from Spain and decided to establish its own government. As a result, the Mexican government gave control of Mission Viejo to Don Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Santa Anna used the mission as his headquarters during his rule over California. The first Christian missionaries arrived in Mission Viejo in 1771. In 1821, they replaced the Mexican government's secular priests with Catholic priests. In 1846, when California became part of the United States, Mission Viejo became part of San Diego County and remained under American jurisdiction until 1957 when it was transferred back to Mexican jurisdiction. The original mission building was destroyed by fire in 1892 but rebuilt within 5 years using local materials and techniques. Today's main church is dedicated to Saint Anthony (or Father António) and has an interior that is considered one of Southern California's most stunning examples of post-apocalyptic architecture. Missions are an important part of Hispanic culture in Baja California Sur because they provide religious instruction for children living near these missions throughout their childhoods; this program helps prevent them from engaging in other criminal activities or becoming addicted to drugs or alcohol which can then lead them into trouble later on in life
Mission Viejo was founded in 1795 by Father José de Benito y Costilla, a Franciscan missionary. The mission was destroyed by fire in 1821 and rebuilt on the same site. In 1836, Mission Viejo became a part of the United States of America and it remained an American community until after World War II, when it reverted to Mexican control.
