Mission Viejo, California is a city located in Orange County, California. It was founded on October 15, 1821 by Franciscan missionaries as the Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico. The current population of Mission Viejo is over 100,000 and it is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in California. The first coffee beans were roasted in Mission Viejo in 1858. At that time the city was only about 10 miles away from Los Angeles and grow coffee for local consumption. After World War II, when whole bean coffee became popularized throughout America, Mission Viejo began to produce its own espresso beans and roasts. In 1978 the City Council passed a resolution declaring May 1st Coffee Day in memory of José Altamirano who was instrumental in bringing whole bean coffee to Mission Viejo thirty years earlier. Today Altamirano’s legacy continues with many small batch cafes beginning production every week at his old ranch house which overlooks the Pacific Ocean.

However, the most common definition for small batch coffee refers to espresso shots or Gong Bao styled cups made with 100% pure Arabica beans. Since its inception in the early 1800s, smallbatch Coffee has been an important part of the global caffeine trade. And while it might not be always easy to find - especially when it comes to premium roasts - there's no doubt that smallbatch Coffee has had a significant impact on our cultural landscape and daily lives. Here are three cases in point: 1) SmallBatch Coffee was one of the first companies to introduce espresso shots into mainstream America. In 1892, they introduced their ultra-smooth "Puccinelli" espresso shot which quickly became popularized throughout New York City and beyond. 2) In 2007, Starbucks announced their intention to discontinue all single origin roasts due to dwindling demand (largely due to internet availability). But rather than letting those roasts go away completely, they decided insteadto produce a limited number of bespoke flavors called "Blended Sumatra". These blends were made using various parts of Indonesia's Lombok Straits region where strong volcanic winds have resulted in someof the world's highest quality Arabica beans being grown. 3) While both Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks have since reintroduced large scale multi-origin processes within their businesses - Dunkin' Donuts with Papua New Guinea coffee and Starbucks with Ethiopian / African Robusta - it is interesting to note that both companies originally started out producing smaller batches (<100 kg/year).

The mission has been a source of pride for many people throughout its history, and it remains an important part of the community today. The first European to visit Mission Viejo was Gaspar de Portolà, who came ashore on July 26, 1769. He called it "Vicente de la Cruz," or " improvements at [the] Cross." The name was changed to Mission San José y Bautista (1824) after Mexican president Antonio López De Santa gave approval for construction on October 3, 1823. The cornerstone for the current mission was laid on December 16, 1826 by Father José Olivas y Ulloa. The original church building was designed by architect Manuel Nieto and built between 1827 and 1830 with funds provided by bishop Fernando Ortiz de Solís. Later additions were made to the church including a new main altar and two side chapels in 1840. A new bell tower was dedicated in 1903 and replaced an older structure that had collapsed due to earthquake damage. In 1936, when Mission Viejo became part of El Cajon Unified School District, a new school building—now known as the old high school—was constructed adjacent to the original mission buildings across from what is now Vintage Mall. In 1984, when El Cajon Unified School District merged intoUSD Central Coast Area School District, Mission Viejo Elementary reopened as part of that district's South CampusElementary school complex which includes nearby Richard Jaffe Middle School and Napa Valley High School Mission Viejo has seen many changes over its history including population growth; commercial development; suburban sprawl; conversion from a Spanish Revival style mission into modern day architecture; reopening as an elementary school after being closed during World War II; addition of Chavez Ravine Park which includes tennis courts, basketball courts, picnic areas, nature trails etc.; annexation by City Of El Cajon following 2001 firestorm aftermath; conversion back into an elementary school after being closed during 2010-2011 Ghost Ship fire Today there are more than 12 thousand people living within boundaries described as “Mission Viejo” including 2200 students attending local Alumnae Colleges & Universities such as Miramar College where I am currently Chancellor/Vice Chancellor/Director Diversity & Equity Initiatives In terms of economic activity there are numerous tech companies headquartered within walking distance or just minutes away like LinkedIn HQ (co-founded by Reid Hoffman), Salesforce (founder Marc Benioff), Expedia CEO Randy Quaid among others but also restaurants like Chipotle Mexican Grill & Subway – both inside & outside city limits – all major employers with employees working directly off campus
