The United States Air Force (USAF) was founded on 14 October 1947 by President Harry S. Truman as the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFFE). The USAF is headquartered at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The USAF has over 150,000 active duty members and an additional 135,000 civilians who support its operations with airpower worldwide. The USAF's mission is to "provide world peace through air power." The USAF began its history with the purchase of four Convair B-29 Superfortresses from the British Commonwealth Air Forces in 1945. These bombers were used for strategic bombing during World War II and provided a significant contribution to American victory. TheAAF also purchased more than 12,500 planes and helicopters between 1945 and 1949. In 1951, the President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 10836 which set up the United States Air Force Academy at Maxwell AFB, Alabama as a preparatory school for future service officers. It was not until 1954 that the first cadets graduated from Maxwell AFB and began their training atp Atchison Army Ammunition Plant, Kansas under Operation Paperclip which saw American citizens recruited into the RAF in order to help build aircraft plants all over Europe. After hostilities ceased in 1945, many surplus military Aircraft were sold off or given away to various countries who assembled them into new aircraft or converted them for civilian use including the Boeing 707 airliner which became America's premier long range passenger plane when it entered service in 1927. After World War II ended there was a need for bomber replacements due to Hiroshima’s atomic bombing of Japan and Nagasaki’s bombing of Hiroshima in 1945 . Plans were drawn up by General Curtis LeMay to buy 38 Constellation jets from England but these plans fell through when Truman took office because he wanted a nuclear weapon instead In 1947 Congress passed legislation authorizing peacetime acquisition of strategic weapons such as bombers , missiles , tanks etc., thru appropriation of $5 billion . On 15 October 1947 President Harry S Truman issued an executive order creating USAAFFE designating Monrovia Municipal Airport as military airstrip #1 within 1 year This order placed restrictions on civilian ownership of any airport so this airport would become solely serving USAF needs only .. On 4 November 1948 Monrovia Municipal Airport came under control of USAAFFE although it still contained some restrictions on civilian ownership

It is one of the most decorated air bases in the United States, having been awarded numerous awards including five Distinguished Unit Citations, four Meritorious Unit Awards, two Presidential Unit Citation Awards, and three National Defense Service Medals.
Monrovia, California is the capital of the U.S. state of California and its most populous city, with a population of approximately 2 million in 2010. Monrovia is located on the southern coast of San Francisco Bay and has been inhabited by Californians for over 300 years. The area now comprising Monrovia was first explored by Father Junípero Serra in 1827 as part of his attempt to find a route to Sonoma County through the Sierras. In 1849, Governor Manuel Miranda designated Monrovia as the seat of government for Northern California because there was no other city in that region with that status at the time. It became an incorporated town on March 14, 1850; on October 15, 1853 it became a city under Spanish rule following American occupation during the Mexican–American War. The post office at Monrovia was established on February 17, 1860; it was moved to downtown San Francisco two months later because there were not enough mail carriers to deliver letters from all of California at that time. The first street in downtown Monrovia was called "Pioneer Place." The City Council voted to rename it "Monroe" after General James Monroe who served as President of the United States from 1828-1829 and who helped negotiate peace treaties between America and Mexico after their war for independence from Spain. On November 3rd, 1962, Mayor Dianne Feinstein announced plans for MONROVIAN GARDENS which would have encompass 8 blocks within Downtown San Francisco between Polk and streets leading away from Market Streets cornering 1st Street/Folsom Street (now Divisadero Avenue). On November 16th Mayor Feinstein unveiled a new logo for MONROVIAN GARDENS which included citrus trees native to Southern California grown primarily in Monrovia Gardens adjacent to City Hall Park across 1st Street/Folsom Street from Polk Alley entrance

Monrovia was founded by prospectors in 1848. It became a small town in 1872 when it was chosen as the capital of California. In 1916, Monrovia was incorporated as a city and has remained that way ever since. The economy of Monrovia is based on agriculture and manufacturing. Monrovia is home to two major universities, San Francisco State University and Riverside City College.
Monrovia was founded in 1887 by Captain George C. Monro and his brother, Colonel James Monro. The town was named after the Monterey Bay area where they lived. In 1914, Monrovia became an incorporated city with a population of 40,000 people. The first municipality in California was organized in 1849 when San Francisco declared itself a City of Refuge for fugitives from justice. In 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt announced the creation of the U.S.–Mexico Border Patrol to help keep America's borders safe from illegal immigration. The following year, the city saw its first mass panic when new refugees poured into town from Central America and South American countries. By 1910, Monrovia had become one of the largest citrus-growing communities in California and boasted a library, cemetery, post office and theater as well as several thousand residents. The early 20th century was a time of great change for Monrovia with three major waves of immigrants coming to this country: Italians (1910-1920), Chinese (1925-1945) and Japanese (1946-1955). Many families came alone or through groups and were unable to assimilate quickly into American society. As World War II drew near, many locals helped out their fellow citizens by working on military bases or farms during wartime; however, few realized until it was too late that these same resources would be needed again once the war ended. During the postwar years, Monrovia experienced rapid growth due to increased trade with Asia and Latin America; however, much like most communities across California at that time there were no real public services or infrastructure in place to support this growth - instead businesses relied largely on individual donations or family members helping out within their own means especially since jobs weren't always available outside of cities/towns during peacetime periods either. This posed unique problems for local government officials who were constantly trying to keep up with economic development while also trying to maintain social stability amid rapidly changing demographics without any effective tools or resources at their disposal other than personal effort and goodwill which often clashed violently with rival business interests led by those same officials themselves who often used their position advantageously to enrich themselves rather than serve their constituents well.).
