As World War II progressed USCG personnel were used throughout North America in search for Axis forces as well as helping with evacuations duringascist campaigns such as Operation Overlord in 1944 and 1945 In 1946-1947 USS Constitution operated off Korea while USS Porter operated off California during Operation Neptune’s Spear In 1951 USS John F Kennedy was decommissioned but reactivated Decommissioned on October 1st 1951 she served until 1971 when she collided with SS Achille Lauro off Long Island Sound
