In 1850, Captain John Monro sold his Rancho Los Brisdos to Judge James Wickersham Sr., who built a large cotton plantation there. Judge Wickersham also donated some of his acreage north of Monroe Street back to monROvIA for public use. This area became known as Town Park today due to its importance during this time period! WhileJudge Wickersham was building his cotton plantation in 1850-51, he also began planning for what would becomeMonroe Avenue—the first street in town! The street runs from North Monroe Street east to South Monroe Street today! Captain John Monroy's death in 1852 left his widow Mrs. Elizabeth Briggs alone with her two young children at their rancho los brisdos (ranch off old #2), where she continued operating it until 1861 when she leased it back out to Mr./Mrs./Mr./Mr.(?)improvement company name unknown; operated until 1865 under various other names eGpansion Record Co.; Incorporated 1865 & remained inactive until 1870 when purchased by JW Marriott interests; reorganized 1889 as Marriott Rubber & Mining Company; current name: National City Bank Corporation
