Since the early 1900s, Monrovia's National Guard has played an important role in the community. In 1912, the first detachment of California's National Guard was organized in response to a local crisis. The California Legislature passed a bill authorizing the formation of a state militia and establishing a national guard detachment to support this cause. The first soldiers from San Diego County arrived in 1913 and soon began drill exercises at Santa Fe Park. Annual muster rolls were compiled in 1914 and 1915 to document troop strength. In 1916, Governor Hiram Johnson called for all Californians who could bear arms to assemble at Camp Kearney on July 4th for training purposes. A year later, General John J Pershing ordered all states with militias into federal service under his new World War I mobilization policy. On March 2nd, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson established the National Defense Act which created: (1) the United States Military Academy; (2) The United States Army; (3) The United States Naval Academy; (4) The National Guards Bureau; and (5) The Office of Military History. This act also authorized each state to establish its own militia if it so desired. The American Civil War had ended but Reconstruction had not yet ended as promised by Lincoln during his Emancipation Proclamation of 1865. As time went on more African Americans were brought into white society through free labor and land reforms while Native Americans continued their traditional ways of life unsupported by European colonists. As these changes unfolded within America there was growing tension between black people living beneath white rule and those seeking freedom from European oppression abroad or within their own countries' borders. This tension boiled over into racial violence as poor whites- primarily men- resorted to open rebellion against institutions such as Jim Crow segregation laws that limited opportunities for people of color inside America while keeping them outside society completely politically and economically speaking until recently today On November 8th 1930, President Herbert Hoover signed Executive Order 6102 which abolished most Red Cross chapters throughout America because they were considered "undesirable" organizations due to their political neutrality or support for leftist causes abroad according to historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr.. At this time most Red Cross chapters across America operated without government oversight or regulation under Private Social Welfare Acts which provided financial assistance only to registered nonprofit groups working directly with citizens rather than self-interested elites like Red Cross Chapters did . The United States National Guard has a rich history that can be traced back to the Revolutionary War. The Continental Army was composed of militia units, which were volunteer groups of citizens who pledged their allegiance to the cause of independence. At its peak in 1775, the Continental Army had over 380,000 men under arms. In 1795, President George Washington ordered the creation of a national guard force to provide security for American soil during the French and Indian War. The first national guard unit was raised in New York City on December 12, 1795. By 1800, there were 1 million militiamen in America. During the antebellum period (1849-1865), it became increasingly normal for white Americans to maintain civilian militias as part of their defense against black Democratic clubs and Radicals in state legislatures across the South. However, this did not mean that Negroes were completely disarmed or powerless within these militias; rather they generally served as auxiliaries or support personnel while their owners continued to arm and train them at home. In 1871, Congress passed a bill authorizing African Americans to enlist in Ulysses S. Grant’s military campaign against Confederate forces in southern Africa; however, this measure did not take effect until after his death in 1882. On November 25th 1917, General John J Pershing called upon all patriotic Americans “to contribute without fail” towards building an international military coalitionagainst Bolshevism following World War I (1914-1918). This call for patriotism led many people to donate money and goods into various national guard organizations throughout America such as Red Cross societies and First Aid Corps chapters across town from stores where these donations could be collected easily by volunteers who knew how to make sales pitches about how helpful these organizations would be during wartime times. Many people also believed that it was important for patriotic individuals to show support for their country through tangible means such as donating money or goods into local organizations like this one so that more people could see what was being done for our countrymen overseas on a daily basis! The National Guard was first activated on July 1, 1792. It is not clear when the first national guard gifts were given to individuals or organizations. However, it is safe to assume that these donations initially came from members of the military who had served in the Continental Army or later in the American Revolution. The National Guard was originally made up of soldiers from all over Massachusetts and New England. After the establishment of a government in1795, it became necessary for Congress to authorize an additional 1,000 soldiery to be published into service throughout the United States. This led to the creation of a nationwide militia and national guard system which we know today as our U.S. Military Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force).
Monrovia is a city in the eastern Mojave Desert of California, United States. It is the county seat for Mono County and home to the Monrovia Museum of Art and History. The population was 39,752 at the 2010 census. In 1892, when California became a state, Monrovia was included within Los Angeles County. However, because of its location in an agricultural area and its lack of industry, it struggled to maintain any degree of prosperity until after World War II. Afterward, it began to prosper as a bedroom community for nearby Los Angeles. In recent years, however, crime rates have soared while median household income has decreased;[1] monorail service has been discontinued;[2][3] and monorail ribboning has become necessary to provide more efficient transportation during rush hours.[4] The name "Monrovia" comes from Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza's 1697 landing on Mono Island,[5] which lie south of present-day Monrovia on the border between present-day Kern County (to the east) and Tehachapi County (to the west).[6][7][8] In 1892 Californian Governor John Cushing appointed Isidore Hubbell as captain general of all California Department of Land Affairs with orders to explore all lands northwestward reaching Santa Fé—the lands now known as Nevada and Arizona—and ascertain whether they were subject to Mexican sovereignty or not. On his way back across Nevada he stopped at what is now known as Anza Gate on Mono Island about 4 miles southeast of modern day Monrovia.[9][10] Bautista de Anza had named what are today Bureau City Park east of present day downtown Monrovia after him in 1788 near where Ulysses S. Grant's Tomb now stands just north east from Union Pacific Railroad tracks crossing Yesler Way NE between Bureau City Park & Ivar Noyes Cemetery outside town limits today’s boundaries [11][12]. Monrovia was founded by James Monier in 1846. The town was named after the Monongahela River, which flows through it. It became a city on July 15, 1908.
