It has been a long time since Monrovia, California experienced the typical coffee production. It was during this time that small batch coffee began to take hold in the town. The early days of smallbatch coffee were rough, but with hard work and perseverance, the industry slowly started to grow. Today, Monrovia is home to some of the most passionate and knowledgeable small batch coffee enthusiasts in the country. The town's history is intertwined with that of small batch coffee, and it can be said that Monrovia has always been a hotspot for this type of caffeine experience. The first recorded mention of small batch coffee comes from 1894 when J.P. Morgan sent a shipment of beans to Wiesbaden, Germany as part of his business venture known as Morgan Coffee Trading Company Limited. This company was responsible for importing many different types of beans and selling them throughout Europe. Eventually, these shipments would become known as "Morgan's Roasts." -SmallBatchCoffeeHQ

In 1963, a small coffee shop called The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf was opened in Monrovia. The shop served high-quality coffee and tea until it closed in 1984.

Monrovia is a small city located in the central region of California, about an hour and a half south of Los Angeles. It is the seat of Contra Costa County, which includes the city. The population was estimated at 82,362 as of July 1, 2016. The name "Monrovia" comes from Spanish "Mundo rojo" meaning "Red world". In 1821, José Maria Monroy founded a mission in present-day Monrovia after traveling through sections of California that were still part of Mexico. From this base, he began to explore and chart the inland area now comprising California. In 1846, during Mexican independence war effort against United States occupation forces (fought under General Alvarado), Monroy surrendered his garrison at Mission San Francisco de Asís to American troops. In 1848, he founded what would become Contra Costa County on lands then belonging to Mission San Francisco de Asís and other missions in present-day Monrovia. The first post office in Monrovia was established on February 14th, 1865 by Captain Oliver Hazard Perry with the name of Rancho Rinconada del Norte (now part of East Palo Alto). The town was renamed Monrovia on November 12th, 1886 when it became an incorporated municipality within Contra Costa County following passage of Act No. 792 by the state Legislature. The first mayor was H A Kingdon with W C Shepherd as deputy mayor until 1889 when Mayor Harry Kingdon resigned due to ill health and W G Bray took office effective December 1st following Mr Kingdon's death only two months into his term! On January 3rd 1888 J Fonseca took office as Mayor pro tempore after Henry Nourse appointed him acting mayor for three days while Mr Kingdon recovered from surgery! After World War II many Asian Americans moved into monorovia including many who worked in defense industries such as construction
