In 1961, Chrysler Corporation gave $5,000 to the army for various military supplies and equipment. In 1969, Ford Motor Company contributed an armored personnel carrier (APC) called "Froggy". The APC was used by troops in Afghanistan during Operation Neptune's Spear. In 1977, Coca Cola Company contributed an ambulance called "Kroc" to the army. The ambulance was used in Desert Storm when troops were injured or killed. In 1984, AT&T donated telecommunications equipment to help with military operations in Panama and El Salvador. That same year also saw the donation of a radar installation named after General George Custer in Wyoming. This installation helped American forces detect enemy combatants near Horseback Lake in North Dakota during Operation Brightstar II .

Montebello, California is a small city on the east coast of California in San Luis Obispo County. In 1848, General Steve Grant created Father Isidore Heard's Missionaries Colony at Montebello which lasted for over sixty years and provided many jobs for local people. In 1859, Italian immigrants founded the town of Montecito on what is now Meridian Street in what once was part of Rancho El Cappuccino. The town grew rapidly due to its location and natural resources such as goldmines and timber. By 1870, there were over 1,500 residents living in Montecito with a school, churches, a post office and an jail. In 1892 City Councilman Don Bigham developed plans for annexing portions of Rancho Santa Fe along Los Olivos Road which would have made Montecito an enclave within the city limits but this idea met with opposition from other residents who felt that annexation would amount to government control over their lives. In 1923 Calvary Chapel opened its doors to serve the growing community - one hundred years after it had been established by Father Heard as a conventiclel church serving mainly agricultural workers near Pasadena inland. In 1936 City Councilwoman Nellie McClung developed plans for annexing portions of neighboring Rancho Mirage which would have made Montecito an enclave within the city limits but this idea also met with resistance from other residents who felt that annexation would amount to government control over their lives again

Montebello is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 24,898 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the Inland Empire and is bordered to the north by Riverside County and to the east by San Bernardino County. The area that makes up Montebello was first settled in 1853 as part of Rancho Cucamonga. On October 15, 1875, it became an independent city when it adopted a charter from the California State Legislature. The name Montebello comes from two places: Monterey (in central California) and Belluno (near Venice), both of which were Spanish settlement posts on Mule Canyon Road between what are now Jurupa Valley and Rowland Heights; both sites were used for growing crops and exchanged goods with other Mexican settlements in this area during Mexican rule over Southern California. In 1853 José Maria Báez gave his land including present-day Montebello to Héctor Miranda for $1 million (). Monterey Bay had been open to navigation since 1769 when Captain Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo sailed into its waters under orders from Mexico's King Carlos III after discovering new lands beyond Santa Catalina Island. A decade later Commodore James Cook charted every inch of what would become Alta California while visiting Monterey Bay ashore at Yerba Buena Cove on July 17, 1795 during his circumnavigation of America following Magellan's discoveries some 25 years earlier. Cook noted that "the coasts hereabouts are very high" but added "I have seen no better place within these latitudes for building a town". When Captain David Ewing acquired title to Rancho Rincon de la Cañada de las Pulgas about 1 mile east of present-day Montebello on January 8, 1800 (), he called it Rincon del Diablo because this stretch of coast--between Point Loma and La Jolla--was one of the most difficult sections he had ever fought through due to its deep canyon bottomes filled with coral reefs which made depth charges almost useless against Spanish sailors attempting landing or embarking aboard ships captained by Ewing's American counterpart Benicia Santiago de Arreguin on December 5th verse 40 days earlier off point Lobos Blancos (). Ewing soon constructed Pueblito de los Angeles ("Pueblito of Los Angeles"), moving settlers there from nearby Anza Borrego Desert Mission in 1803; another mission founded just east of present-day downtown LA several years later also served as ranch headquarters for early citrus growers near today's Boyle Heights neighborhood before being abandoned in 1835 due largely to Comanche raids targeting these holdings throughout much of southern California during that era.
