In 1892, two Italian immigrants, Giovanni and Antonio Mastrogiacomo, opened a small coffee house in Montebello. The Mastrogiacomos were the first to roast their own beans and sell them direct to customers. In 1916, Angelo Badalamenti started the Montebello Coffee Company. It was one of the first coffee companies in California to roast its own beans and sell them directly to consumers. In 1929, Don Miguel Conte opened La Bodega del Cafe in Montebello with his son-in-law Rufus Morse as Manager. La Bodega del Cafe became one of the most popular cafés in Montebello and is still considered a landmark today. In 1938, Don Miguel Conte passed away and his son Manuel took over management of La Bodega del Cafe. Manuel Goodyear served as Manager from 1951 until his death in 1984. In 1990, Don Miguel's grandson Mario Goodyear founded Gold Medal Coffee Co., Ltd., which continues to operate La Bodega del Cafe under the name "Don Miguel's". Since 1957, when Starbucks was established on Broadway Avenue near State Route 237 in neighboring Monterrey,[4] Montebello has been home to one of North America's earliest Starbucks cafes (opened by Dave Asprey[5]).
Montebello is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 21,463 at the 2010 census. Montebello is located on the eastern side of the San Gabriel Mountains, just east of Interstate 10 and west of downtown Los Angeles. It has a Mediterranean-style architecture with red sandstone and limestone buildings dating back to 1892. The city's first post office was established in 1892. A cotton gin and mill were built in 1912 and 1915 respectively, but they closed down after a few years because of competition from nearby cities such as Redlands and Claremont. However, the Montebello Cotton Company continued to operate until it went out of business in 1928. The city was incorporated on February 14, 1929 by James Fenton Weaver Jr., an American Democrat who had been elected Mayor of Los Angeles two years earlier. Weaver had served as City Councilman for two terms before being appointed mayor; he became one of the first openly gay Californians to hold public office. In 1933, when Hoover vetoed a bill that would have made homosexuality illegal under California law, Weaver used his influence to get the bill passed into law instead; this helped him become known as "the architect of modernity" in Montebello. In 1941, during World War II, Montebello joined forces with other cities within Southern California to form the United Cities Committee (UCC). This group supported Roosevelt's New Deal policies while also working towards creating social justice issues such as racial equality and against fascism worldwide. The UCC disbanded in 1945 after disagreements over political strategy.[1] In 1955,[2] Sonny Bono grew up in Montebello and attended East Side High School there before moving on to Central Valley College where he met John Lennon.[3][4] In 1958–1959 they studied at Liverpool University where Lennon made his first recordings[5][6] before returning home to start their own band which eventually became Beatles fame[7][8]. After leaving Beatlesmania behind they signed with Deutsche Grammophon Records Ltd.. They released their debut album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) which reached number one on both sides of America[9][10], becoming one of only four groups everto achieve this feat[11][12]. Their follow-up album Abbey Road (1969) achieved even more success outside North America due its heavy use of previously unheard tracks including “She Loves You” (& “Let It Be”), plus cover versions of hits like Steely Dan’s “China Girl” (#1 US hit 1970)[13], Ray Charles’ “I Can't Quit You Baby” (#1 US hit 1971)[14],[15]), Brownie McGhee's “Dancing On My Own (With MyBoyfriend)\#2 US hit 1972″ (#3 UK hit 1973)[16]) #1 UK Top 40 single flowers & lilies 1973). They were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame® [17] In 1974 they produced their second albumTold By Tom Pettyand Friends which topped both Albums charts for 3 weeks consecutively 1966-1974

Montebello is a small town located in southern San Bernardino County, California. The community was founded in 1887 by John Sutter and his family as a ranching center for their cattle. The name is derived from the Mount Baldy peak that can be seen from the town's central square. By 1915, the population of Montebello had grown to 350 residents and it became an incorporated municipality in 1919. In 1940, Montebello became one of the first communities in Southern California to adopt an open-air swimming pool when developer Edward J. Smith built one on Monterey Park Boulevard overlooking Lake Arrowhead and opened it to the public. The community continued to grow through the years, reaching its peak population of 1,500 residents in 1970 but thendeclining rapidly due to various factors such as economic decline and changing demographics. However, recent efforts have been made to revive the community with a focus on art and culture, including a new museum and college campus which opened in 2018.

The first post office at Montebello was established in 1854. The city began to grow rapidly during the late 1800s due to its natural resources, such as coal and oil. Manufacturing became an important part of the economy with businesses such as General Electric, Ford Motor Company and Kaiser-Permanente selling products throughout the city. In 1907, Montebello became one of the cities in California that joined the United States after it seceded from Mexico. In 1939, Montebello was incorporated as a city with a population of over 33,000 people. During World War II, Montebello played an important role in the conflict by providing housing for war veterans and supplying their needs with food and munitions. In 1945, following World War II, Montebello experienced rapid growth as new industries emerged such as real estate development and international trade. By 1957, however, Montebello's economy had begun to decline due to changes in technology and globalization which have affected many American cities. In 1978, following years of community activism led by Mayor Donny Hathaway (D),Montebello became one of the most HispanicAmerican cities in California when it adopted bilingual education programs for its citizens aged 6 through 24 years old In 1993–1994 Mayor Micheletti enacted controversial measures that caused mass protests throughout Montebello including arrests on suspicion of voter fraud; these events were dubbed "the riots". Following thorough investigatory hearings convened by City Council members into allegations of municipal mismanagement resulting from this policy changeMayor Micheletti resigned effective November 5th 1994 citing multiple failures within City Hall which he blamed on then-mayor Donny Hathaway who he felt had been too accommodating to organized crime interests during his tenure
