It also spawned the Montebello Gun Club which met monthly until disbanding in 1916 because no one could afford to buy ammunition themselves! The First World War brought new life to this community with troops streaming into town from all over America and Europe. In 1919, war veterans founded Veterans Memorial Hall where they could celebrate their return home with food and music from local bands playing patriotic marches before returning to their units overseas or barracks back home. A variety of events took place throughout the 1920s including car Showdowns on Parade Streets, Homecoming Reunions at Memorial Halls and dances at Elks Clubs (now defunct). One interesting event that occurred during this time period was when wealthy citizens sent their automobilepenters outfitted with machine guns so they could compete against each other in shooting tournaments held at various locations around town ending with a final shootout at Veterans Memorial Hall where winners received cash prizes! From 1925-1927, Monterey Peninsula College hosted its annual Christmas Open House where friends would gather together outside for eggnog socializing before setting up homes inside for dinner that night! This open house attracted many well-to-do people who generously contributed items such as furniture, dishes, clothes etc., all while enjoying a festive meal outdoors! As more families moved into central California during these years there was an increased demand for space within churches and chapels so donations became common among ministers/ elders who felt it was important to give back to society through helping those less fortunate than them. In 1930s MPC began hosting its own holiday pageant featuring popular entertainers like Benny Goodman and Harry Jameson before concluding with a ball game between Methodist University Champions Grace Baptiste Schoolgirls against Ursuline High School Royals!!! The city also became known as "the bedroom community of Southern California." After years of growth, during World War IIMontecito experienced some serious destruction when Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbor.
