The Monterey Park Army Post and Supply Depot was established in 1918 as the first post office in Monterey Park. The depot served as a military garrison until it closed in 1969. In that year, the depot reopened as an army supply store. The store was purchased by the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1922 and became an academy-owned store. The store closed in 1970 but reopened under new ownership and continued to serve the academy until it closed in 1994. From 1922 to 1969, the Monterey Park Army Post and Supply Depot served as a center for military supplies for soldiers stationed throughout Southern California. Today, the depot is a historical landmark within Monterey Park and forms a part of its cultural heritage. The history of the Monterey Park Army Post and Supply Depot begins with World War I when it was established as the first post office in Monterey Park. At this time, military facilities were located near major cities across North America because war was imminent. In 1918, when these posts were established, there were only six enlisted men stationed at each post; however, due to wartime shortages of manpower, these numbers increased rapidly during World War I thanks to mobilization efforts underway at home and abroad. As more troops arrived back into California after hostilities ended, they needed goods such as food, clothing, ammunition, vehicles etc., which had been stockpiled inside of the army post station on Broadway Avenue in Los Angeles since 1917. This stockpile quickly grew unmanageable so officials decided to open up shop at what would become known as "Army Post & Supply Depot", serving both local residents (who came to purchase items such as gasoline or flour) and soldiers stationed throughout Southern California who relied on this central source for their needs until it closedteredin1969 following years of decline due primarily to budget cuts within U S Military Academy at West Point which also struggled with maintaining infrastructure amidst increasing student enrollment rates throughout New York City). In 1970-71 (following another decade long decline), Army Commander Lieutenant Colonel George Hildebrandt made some drastic decisions regarding troop posture/ deployments within Southern California; he instead ordered all nonessential stores/posts consolidated into one location closer to centers vital for troop support including San Diego (the previous location for supply depots operated by Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton) while concurrently expanding officer training programs currently taking place inside USMAW's sprawling barracks on Orchard Road Racetrack Campus; thus began what would eventually be known as "MontereyParkArmyPostandSupplyDepotHistory". The Monterey Park, California Army post was founded on 1 January 1881. The post was first known as the Monterey Park Arsenal. In 1898, it became the Monterey Park Armory and in 1902, it became the Monterey Park Infantry School. On 1 October 1912, it became the Monterey Park Barracks and on 15 November 1915, it became the Monterey Park Depot. In 1916, it became part of the United States Army First Corps Area Command and on 4 September 1918, it became a separate army post with its own command structure. On 1 July 1921, the armory was redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion of the California Army National Guard. It reverted to its original name on 6 October 1922 when Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion were redesignated as Headquarters and Element of Troop A (Monterey Peninsula) of Division VII (Arizona). On 8 December 1936, Headquarters and Elements of Troop A (Monterey Peninsula) were redesignated as Brigade headquarters for 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (2 IBCT) activated at Fort Bliss near Dallas Texas under Lieutenant Colonel Emerson Crouse Jr.. The brigade moved to San Diego on 13 December 1936 where they Colored Garrison Regiment No. 5 followed them while they awaited activation from within their parent brigade headquarters unit 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team which arrived in early 1937 On 16 May 1941 elements of 2d IBCT detachment moving into beachhead at Big Sur County had rifle range opened by commanding general USAAF Second Air Force
Monterey Park, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 11,835 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Monterey Peninsula and bordered by San Francisco to the south and east,Encinitas to the north and west, and Fullerton to the northwest. The first Europeans to visit Monterey Park were merchants from Spain in 1769 who landed on Isla de la Cruz. In 1818 Mexico gained independence from Spain, and Monterey Park became part of Mexican Territory of Alta California. At that time it had a population of around 100 people. In 1875 Congress created Rancho Cucamonga as a gift to Dr. George Wickersham Sr., son-in-law of Commodore James Kieft of New York City's Maritime Department for his services in saving Rancho Panoche from development by Juan Bautista Navarro and others with interests in mining operations near Fullerton (now Huntington Beach). The Wickersham heirs also donated land for what is now Monterey Park; this land included most of present-day downtown Monterey Park as well as some parts of Encinitas which are now part of Irvine Spectrum . In 1905 the City Council granted planning permission for an amusement park which would become Disneyland . The park opened on July 15, 1955. Anaheim Congregational Church began construction on its current headquarters building at 10th Street/Metro Drive in 1923; it was later moved across 10th Street into what is today’s Macy’s department store building before being demolished for park use in 1957. The churchyard still retains parts of its original structure including a spire that rises above Harbor Boulevard beneath Interstate 5

The land that would become Monterey Park was first settled by Native Americans in what is now Riverside County during pre-Columbian times. In 1870s various stores opened up along what are now Central Avenue between Empire Valley Road (now Euclid Avenue) and Abbott Road - this area became known as "The Row".
