The first coffeehouses in Monterey Park were opened by "The Dutchman" coffee shop and bakery in 1884, on J Street between First and Second Avenues. In 1886, the first Italian restaurant was opened in Monterey Park by Salvatore Leone and his brother-in-law Antonio Borrelli. By 1897, there were six cafes in town with a population of about 100 people. Coffeehouses started to proliferate throughout the late 1800s as Los Angeles grew increasingly overcrowded and demand for caffeine increased as railroads became available to transport more goods from inland farms to urban areas. By 1907, there were twelve coffeehouses operating in Monterey Park with a population of over 1,500 people. In 1912–1915, two new coffeehouses were built: "The Gilded Cage" at 222 Fourth Avenue and "New Statesmen" at 4th Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard. In 1916–1917 two new espresso houses were built: "Bagel Bites" at First Avenue and Colorado Street (later renamed The Coffee House) and "Dutch Bros." at Third Street and Ocean Boulevard (later renamed Dutch Bros Coffee). In 1922–1924 three new stores opened: "Elixir" (later renamed Café Elixir), "Brewster's Garden", and "Gouda Junction". At that time total population was estimated at 2,400 people living within five miles of Monterey Park School District #2 boundaries; however this figure only included those who worked within one or more businesses within the school district limits themselves! In 1925 the entire school district including Monterey Park annexed into City of San Diego public schools making it an all-encompassing educational community with its own police department! This increase in interaction among residents led to cross-pollination which greatly improved beans quality although some small business owners did not take advantage of this opportunity – instead choosing to close down their businesses during prohibition because they could not compete against municipal services! As early as 1926monterey park had 14 different shops/cafés taking up space inside or outside their business premises serving 675 customers daily; however health problems associated with drinking high volumes of caffeine contributed significantly to closure rates during this period1…Today only 3 cafes remain open without any health concerns: Café Espejo on Ivarado Street serving breakfast from 7am until 2pm every day except Mondays; Brewster’s Garden on Alameda Drive serves sandwiches from 10am until 5pm every day except Mondays; while Dutch Bros Coffee closed its doors back in2013 but reopened last year under a new name - Old World Cafe – serving pastries all morning until 11pm every day except weekdays

Their shop sold coffee beans from their farm near Coyote Hills. In 1916, Monterey Park's first cafe, La Casa de Oro Coffee Shop, opened on Main Street. It was the first commercially-owned restaurant in Monterey Park and served European-style coffee with a variety of pastries and desserts. In 1951, Monterey Park’s first Italian restaurant called Buono Dopo opened at 6th Ave & G Street. This was the beginning of an era of Italian cuisine being popular in Monterey Park. In 1969, Bob’s Coffeehouse reopened after being closed for several years due to fire damage. Bob’s served drip coffee until 1982 when they switched to espresso drinks only. Monterey Park is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 86,811 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Monterey Peninsula and has a Mediterranean climate. The first Europeans to visit Monterey Park were members of the Spanish expedition led by Pedro Fages in 1795. They named it San Miguel de la Barca after their patron saint, while exploring southern California. In 1821, Nicolas Cage was born here. On May 25, 1869, Rear Admiral John Denny and his commandant of sailors Manuel Peralta founded Rancho El Monte. Mexican land grants were made available for ranching in 1872 through Act 7 of that year; these included Rancho Monterey y las Palmas which became part of Monterey Park on November 2nd (the same day as neighboring Belmont). On January 14th, 1911, Monterey Park's first post office opened with five mail sacks from Pasadena. The town quickly outgrew its small initial population and began receiving mail from other parts of Los Angeles County as well as from adjacent San Diego County. A new Post Office Building was built in 1928 on North First Street; this structure still stands today and is used as the Municipal Center for the City of Monterey Park. In 1924-1925 citrus crops were planted in what is now known as "Mountain View," northeast corner of Spring Valley Road and Chapman Avenue NW., east side of I-5 overpass near milepost 8 (now western border) between Alameda and Contra Costa Counties; allinghams are still present along those boundaries today.. By 1926 fruit orchards had been established at various locations within modern-day District 1: Atwater Crest - north side Of Willowbrook Drive off I-5 exit #313 (at milepost 9), Orchard Heights - east side Of I-5 exit #316 just past milepost 10 (now eastern border), Sunnyside - south side Of I-5 southbound exit #312 about 5 miles westwesterly beyond current day District 1 borders
