Monterey Park, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 81,912 at the 2010 census. It is located on Monterey Peninsula and bordered by North Hollywood to the south and east, Gardena to the north, and Playa del Rey to the west. The name "Monterey Park" comes from Mission San Francisco de Asís (1769) which was founded by Franciscans under Spanish rule. In 1882 it became part of what was then known as Southern California. At the time it had a population of only 449 people. The city's first mayor was George Sarton and its first Councilman were Wm. Haskins and C. Larkin; both men later served as Mayor pro tem until 1905 when they were elected to full Council positions effective January 1, 1906 During World War II Monterey Park joined with other cities in support of American forces in order to make munitions production possible within their limits without going into war with Germany or Japan which would have resulted in heavy military casualties for them both economically and politically. This enabled the city to prosper during wartime while remaining largely unaffected by military conflict outside of its boundaries

Monterey Park is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 33,859 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Monterey Peninsula adjacent to San Francisco and Silicon Valley. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Monterey Park were Missionaries of Jesus who founded Mission Santa Cruz de la Laguna in 1821. The area that would become Monterey Park was part of Rancho Rinconada which was ceded to the United States by Mexico in 1848. In 1857, American Commodore John D. Sloat sent a squadron of warships called "Cimarron" up the Pacific Coast from San Francisco to explore potential new land grants for America's expanding navy. He landed near present-day Monterey Park and named it after his latest acquisition - Cimarron Point (now part of Midtown Los Angeles). In 1861, two years after Commodore Sloat's landing, American soldiers burned down the old mission buildings in what is now Midtown Los Angeles as part of an effort to prevent Mexican forces from using them as military posts. The town was platted on August 22nd, 1863 by James Phelan with land bounded by First Street on the east; Second Street on the west; Central Avenue on the north; and Harbor Boulevard on the south. Early residents included Captain Augustus Wigglesworth and his wife Hannah More who had come overland from England during California Gold Rush days; Manuel Nieto (alias José María del Parral), a soldier turned farmer; Carlos Ortiz (alias Juan Vicente Ortega), a carpenter; Fernando Romero (alias Manuel Romero Mejia), a doctor; Lorenzo Martinez (alias Antonio Martinez Rubio), an attorney and member of Trustees for Southern California Missions District No. 1 - all men from Rancho Rinconada or parts thereof surrounding Single Tree Hill neighborhood then being developed along Third Street between Broadway and State Streets including today's South Pasadena enclave within those limits... In 1876 when rancho boundaries were redrawn following annexation by San Francisco due to lack of interest from other sections beyond single tree hill they lost much acreage including most notably Laurel Hills which lies just northeast of Interstate 15 today... The last resident died in 1918 at age 96 years old... Today there are few remaining descendants living within original community except for a scattering among dispersed families scattered throughout Northern Californias Central Valley region.) The post office opened in 1865, but did not stay open very long because it was moved multiple times around town before finally staying at its current location next door to what is currently Union Middle School until 1870 when it moved across Union Boulevard into what is now City Hall building where it stayed until 1907 when it moved back out onto Main Street where it remains today." This history can be seen through various documents such as deed records or municipal reports that date back to 1865-1870 inclusive."
Monterey Park was founded in 1887 by Capt. John C. Fremont and his wife, Sophia Bancroft. The first post office was established in Monterey Park on October 25, 1887. The town was named for Mount Pinos, which is located near the town limits. In 1912, the Monterey Park Board of Education adopted a resolution calling for the name to be changed to Monterey Junction because of its location on I-5 and State Route 70. In 1944, Monterey Park became a city after voters passed a referendum approving incorporation. In 1966, the City Council renamed itself after California Governor Edmund G. "Pat" Brown as part of a program to rename all U.S.-based cities to honor former governors who had died in office since Californias admission into the United States in 1850. The current mayor is Dianne Feinstein and the city council consists of 5 members with 3 term Limits
