Monterey Park is a city in the San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County, California. It is located on Monterey Peninsula about 30 miles (48 km) south of downtown Los Angeles and 10 miles (16 km) east of Pasadena. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 73,521. The name "Monterey Park" was given to the peninsula by Captain George Vancouver who landed there in 1795 during his expedition sent by Spain to explore what lay between Baja California and Californias missions at Point Conception. The first European settlement in Monterey Park was made on July 20, 1846 when six men from New England founded the town of Half Moon Bay on Monterey Peninsula after sailing upriver from San Francisco Bay. The town flourished for a time but eventually fell victim to annexation by Los Angeles County in 1901. A store and post office opened in Monterey Park on October 8, 1847. A year later, land grantwright John Sutter arrived in Monterey Park with his father-in-law Jens Jensen to homestead and sell land grants around what is now Downtown Los Angeles. Sutter laid out streets that still run through the heart of today's city; he named them Olive Way (later Olive Branch Avenue), Mountain View Road (later Montezuma Boulevard), Fourth Street (later Fourth Street North), and Santa Fe Drive/Highway 1 near Hollywood Boulevard. In 1865, James Wickersham became America's first mail carrier service between L.A.–New York City overland using horse drawn wagons pulled by two mules each way across open country near present-day Paramount Studios

In 1994, ABN Amro Corporation became part of Jardine & MacLeod plc., one of the largest global financial institutions in the world.

Monterey Park is a city located in the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California. The population was 9,043 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Monterey Park was one of two cities, the other being Lancaster, to be annexed by Los Angeles County in 1915. Monterey Park's name comes from Mission San Gabriel, which was founded in 1795 and completed in 1821. The mission served as a center for Indian missions and also functioned as a military post during the Mexican–American War. In 1923, Monterey Park became an incorporated city with jurisdiction over all of El Monte and portions of Sherman Oaks and Glendale. The original town site that now includes Monterey Park was composed mainly of brushy hills overlooking what is now Pasadena Boulevard and Spring Grove Drive. There were no homes or businesses until about 1876 when an American settler named George Hargrave started building some fences on his farmstead known today as Hargrave Heights east of present-day Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (now Mount Sinai Memorial Hospital). By 1888 there were 10 buildings on the site including two churches: One built by Jens Jensen (Jensen’s Store) and James Irvine (Irvine’s Store), while another church built by John Sutter near San Miguel Avenue and Western Avenue was burned down in 1888 but has been restored several times since then. One interesting aspect of earlymontereypark history is that it coincided with developments around downtown LASALAND where merchants such as Pinchot & Peck developed their businesses adjacent to what would become State College Station later becoming University Of Southern California campus before finally merging into UCLA in 1912 Homes began to appear along Spring Grove Drive beginning around 1887 when Cyrus Goodrich bought land from José Castro for $1,000 infamous outlawJohn Dillinger spent time at Mountain View Farm between 1907-1909 while awaiting trial for his role in robbing members of the Jewish community at Rancho Seco between October 1914 – January 1915 . In 1898 Cesar Chávez purchased 5 acres northwest of central square containing 3 houses from Hiram Bingham who had leased it from José Castro years earlier He used it for cattle grazing until 1901 when he moved onto larger property that included 4 adobe structures plus 6 more houses sometime after this He also constructed a warehouse onsite which still stands today within walking distance south west corner Spring Grove Drive/Route 66 North
