In 1906, Morrison donated of land to be developed into Monterey Park Township for the benefit of local farmers and their families who were then laboring in the sun or farming on artificial plots created by Southern Pacific Railroad engineers after they surveyed the area. The first store opened in 1909 at 222 N Demarest Ave., across from what is now Pasadena High School. By 1914, there were five stores in Monterey Park with a total sales volume of $2 million dollars ($ when adjusted for inflation). When war broke out in 1939, high demand for aluminum products caused Southern Pacific to close its lines through Los Angeles so that aluminum could be produced closer to home. The last store closed in 1944 before annexation into Los Angeles took place; however, many businesses reopened during World War II because there was no prohibition against manufacturing aluminum items withinLos Angeles County limits prior to that date (see History of Los Angeles County). After annexation into Los Angeles on January 14, 1950*, Montgomery Ward announced plans to open a new department store located at 12333 Ventura Boulevard immediately north of downtown LA* (*See annexation timeline below). However this plan never came to fruition due to opposition from residents living near Ventura Boulevard who felt it would compete with them economically and environmentally(* See Eagle Rock neighborhood timeline below). In 1957-1958*, Pico Rivera Mall opened adjacent to MacArthur Dam Recreation Area providing an important shopping center which served as both an economic development tool for Monterey Park Township(* * see Annexation timeline below) and access point for commuters commuting intoLA via I-15 or I-210 *. After Pico Rivera Mall closed down in 1988*, nearby La Crescenta became an attractive destination for retailers seeking more suburban locations due largely to its location between Andalusia Hills (northwest corner) and UCLA(southeast corner)* (* see Eagle Rock neighborhood timeline below ). Later that decade* [* early 1990s], AMC Theatres Corporation decided not to renew their lease on Pico Rivera Mallgereding its decision being based largely on rising retail competition from neighboring La Crescenta (* * see history of AMC theater locations ). In 1993+, Sears Holdings Corp.* [* Sears] leased space next door from GMC [General Motors Company] amid allegations that GMC had been considering closing all their US stores save one*. However this did not eventuate because GMC later decided not expand withinLosAngeles County *. On October 15th 1994** [*October 15th1994], Kmart Inc.* [*Kmart] entered into a 10 year lease agreement with Pizza Hut Inc.* [*Pizza Hut] resulting in over 1 million sq ft (~850 buildings) being dedicated solely towards pizza delivery service*. This gave rise both eyebrows* [*see history of Kmart locations ]and applause* [*see history of Pizza Hut locations ], given that pizza has been typically viewed as an Americanized import* [(source: "Eagle Rock Neighborhood Timeline"]) . Monterey Park is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 22,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Monterey Park's municipal government was created in 1911 and it incorporated as a city on October 25, 1912. The first settlers in what would become Monterey Park were two families who moved from southern Mexico to Rancho Cucamonga in 1846. They named their new land "Monterey" after Mount Diablo in California. In 1867, they donated some of their land to the City of Los Angeles for town purposes only. In 1911, when Pasadena became an independent city, its mayor refused to ratify the merger of Monterey Park with Pasadena because he felt that Monterey Park had more important issues to address such as education and infrastructure development while Pasadena should focus on tourism and nightlife. Mayor Harry Wohlman agreed to ratify the merger but revoked his approval when it became clear that there would be no annexation of neighboring towns (such as Downey) until all outstanding community problems were solved. On October 25, 1912, Monterey Park incorporation took place with a total population of 11 people – six women and five men including Mayor Wohlman himself! The first known public meeting took place on November 5th where residents decided to name their new city after Commodore John Doolittle'sailing ship USS Constitution which had been lost during World War I off Southern California! The ships USS Constitution (1897-1917) are now on display at the Maritime Museum of Southern California in Newport Beach across from Angel Island! During World War II, much work was done within the limits of what is nowmontereypark proper due to strategic bombing raids by the USAAF over downtown LOS ANGELES that damaged or destroyed many homes and businesses along Olympic Boulevard between Spring Street and Colorado Boulevard which led directly into monterey park proper! Many post-war features such as Jane Addams Playground (now known as Playland), playgrounds for children aged 4-14 years old adjacent to Dodger Stadium (now called Chavez Ravine), Ahmanson Plaza Shopping Center (now home to Macy’s) were built within current day monterey park boundaries without prior planning or consent from local taxpayers who footed most of the bill! Today’s architecture might not be possible without these retail corridors which allowed everyday citizens accessto world famous entertainment venues like Dodger Stadium while also providing needed housing stock for high school students attending nearby schools like Centinela High School just east of monterey park center
