However, World War II interrupted these efforts and resulted in a decrease in artisan coffee production throughout most of Latin America. However, Monterey did experience some growth within its industry due to the continued importation of high quality beans from other regions. Beginning in the 1960s, an increasing number of small cafes started opening up throughout downtown Monterey which continue to be an important force within the community today.

In 1868, after years of discussion and debate among representatives from various counties within Californias newly formed government, Monterey was chosen as America's lone county seat despite being less developed than other areas because its location on a major trade route made it attractive to investors/developers interested in developing coastal settlements inland from Lompoc Harbor on Yorba Linda Bayou near Sacramento City; later San Francisco Bay Area towns such as Daly City and Hayward were created around this same time period outlying portions now known as Mountain View/Stanford University Area
