The Monterey Coffee Traders Association (MACA) was founded in 1916 and remains the oldest continuously operational coffee trade association in the United States. The first pod of maga coffee was roasted by Jorge Atienza and Emilio Gomez in 1918 at their original location on Depot Street in Monterey. In 1921, Gustavo Santos opened his own roastery and grocery store along Pacific Coast Highway. From 1922 to 1925, Carlos Santana purchased property near what is now Maga Coffee Company Headquarters, where he began to roast his own maga beans. In 1928, Manuel Ramos defeated incumbent Mayor Harry Juhl at the polls to become mayor of Monterey County. He appointed Ramos as head of public works and revenue collection within City Hall before becoming mayor himself in 1933. As mayor, Ramos developed several important projects such as Introducing water conservation into city Code and creating new parks throughout town Ramos also helped popularize maga coffee among Montereyans by donating two thousand pounds of fresh beans to local schools each year from 1934-1939 In 1940-1945 during World War II, Ramos served with distinction as an Army captain and lieutenant colonel commanding troops stationed at Camp Pendleton near San Diego In 1946-1948 Ramirez was elected Governor of California - serving until 1948 when he ran for office again but lost handily to Republican Jerry Brown

The earliest inhabitants of Monterey were Native Americans who populated the area for hunting and fishing. After California gained independence from Mexico in 1848, it became an independent republic governed by a president called the Presidente del Gobierno (President of Government). In 1861 Californio Colonel John Cushing founded the city of Salinas at the headwaters of San Lorenzo Creek in order to serve as a link between Los Angeles and Mexicali. In 1876 Monterey County was organized with its current boundaries including present-day Salinas and Pebble Beach. In 1908 Monterey had its first electric lighting system which allowed illumination throughout most of the community without having to go into darkness like in many other rural areas at that time. During World War II more than 20% of all US military production took place in Monterey County including Boeing Aircraft plants at Point Loma and Naval Air Station El Centro which manufactured fighter planes such as Lockheed P-38 Lightning jets and Boeing B-23 Stratus bombers

It is thought that Mikołaj Kopernik, a nobleman from Gdańsk, may have been the first to roast and sell maga coffee. The beans were certainly not grown or processed on site. Maga coffee became very popular throughout much of Europe after it was introduced by Count Ignacy Szymański in 1868 as part of his attempt to spread European culture and traditions to the Native Americans living near his plantation in eastern Pennsylvania. In 1898, Polish entrepreneur Tadeusz Mazowiecki began marketing maga coffee under the name “Klęcznik” (Crow). The company continued production until 1971 when it merged with two other Polish companies - DOP Magadan and Pucharska Spółgoda Brodnica - to form Poligraficzny DOP-Maga (PODM). Today there are many different types of maga coffee available for purchase online or at specialty stores around the world. In Poland, most modern day maga coffees are made from Arabica beans which are sourced from Ethiopia.
