After years of peace, war erupted again during The Mexican War (1846-1848). This conflict saw both sides fielding large numbers of troops and weaponry as they engaged in an all out effort to quash any rebellion within their respective countriesmen seeking freedom from Spanish rule. By December 1847, American soldier James Fenton had liberated most of Alameda County from Mexican control; however, General Manuel Micheltorena refused to recognize Fenton’s victory until all rebels had been rounded up and executed by order of General Cosme de la Vega y Ortega – an event which ultimately did not take place because Micheltorena believed that such a move would incite more rebellion amongst his own troops. In 1855 Captain Arthur Payson founded Payson Rancho San Rafael on present day Mount Diablo where he has ever since done livestock farming operations supplying local residents with fresh meat for their tables; today this rancho is known for its pink ranches located adjacent to Interstate 5 just south Of Monterey Peninsula Airport on Highway 1A about 10 miles east from downtown Monterey

Monterey was founded on December 2, 1846 by Captain George A. Smith and his brother-in-law, Jedediah B. Morse. The family of five led a small party of twenty men to the site of present day Monterey Peninsula after hearing about the rich gold fields to the north. They named their new settlement for Mount Carmel in Jerusalem, where they had visited as missionaries in 1843. The first post office was established at Monterey on January 1, 1850. By 1870, there were over seventy businesses in town and fishing was an important industry. In 1876,monterey became one of California's fifty congressional districts when it was split off from San Francisco County. In 1912, Monterey hosted the opening of Expo 58 which showcased new Spanish architecture and culture to America; this event is now known as "Museum Day." On October 15th 1938 during World War II, Japanese forces landed at Monterey Peninsula - the first time that Japan had invaded mainland American soil since 1849! The Navy quickly assembled a force to repel the invaders and fought them off until nightfall but many people were killed or captured including most of the town’s white residents who were rounded up into internment camps throughout California during wartime.
