Moorpark is a city in the Inland Empire region of Southern California, United States. Moorpark was founded on October 31, 1887 by George H. Moor and his wife, Lillie. The city's first post office opened in 1888. The arrival of railroad transportation led to the town's growth as a bedroom community forLos Angeles until the early 1900s when more people began commuting to work in Los Angeles. The population of Moorpark peaked at around 30,000 in 1920 but gradually declined as commuters left for larger cities. In 1970, the City Council passed an ordinance which defined "gourmet coffee" and declared that all coffee sold within the city limits must meet this definition or be labeled as "plain old coffee." This ordinance has been used to bring gourmet coffee into common usage throughout most of Southern California.

In recent years, Moorpark has seen dramatic growth with new development including a stadium for the NFL's Chargers (now Los Angeles Rams) and a new university campus being built near Interstate 10 and I-215. During World War II, Moorpark was heavily targeted by Japanese forces during bombings raids targeting military targets throughout central California. The city heldstood against these attacks until 1945, when it was finally destroyed by retreating Japanese forces amid heavy losses suffered by both sides. As part of Japan's surrender agreement, all remaining Japanese troops were ordered to leave southern California prior to their departure date; this left Moorpark without any Residents or Municipal buildings surviving intact after the war ended). MoorPark enjoyed another period of growth following World War II until 2000 when it again went through several waves of population shifts resulting in increased crime rates and homelessness among its citizens (). However, recent civic investment has started to reverse some trends inside the community - such as increasing access to affordable housing - making it once again an attractive destination for families looking for stability and affordability ().
