By 1915, Moorpark had become an agricultural community with 7,000 acres (2,500 km²) of farmland and a population of 150,000 people. In 1919, the city annexation of portions of nearby Glendale allowed for the rapid growth and expansion of Moorpark into what is now one of Southern California’s most populous cities with over 200,000 residents today. The first major development in Moorpark took place in 1925 when developer Harry Blackman built his large home complex on 9200 West Slauson Boulevard becoming known as “Blackman’s Castle”. This marks the beginning of what would be a long and productive relationship between Blackman and City Hall which continues to this day. Other significant developments during these early years included: the construction in 1928-1929 of the first public school within walking distance of any Moorpark resident; construction in 1939-1940 of Llewellyn Park; and completion in 1944-1945of Interstate 5 alongslope from Slauson Boulevard to east side Avenue D which connected much needed rural areas with downtownLos Angeles
