The Naval Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company (NSDC) was founded in 1907 as the first naval shipyard in California. The company built USS Hornet, the first American destroyer, at its San Pedro yard. In 1912 NSDC built USS Midway, the first of America's destroyers. NSDC also became a supplier of ships to both the US Navy and its allies during World War I. After the war, NSDC continued to build submarines and other naval vessels until it shut down in 1968. In 1957, NSDC began construction on what would become known as Navy Pier – one of Los Angeles' most iconic landmarks. The pier is home to a variety of tourist attractions, including the California Science Center and Naval Air Station Miramar. Today, Navy Pier remains an important part of LA's economy and history. Today, Navy Pier plays an important role in Coast Guard operations as well. The pier is used for launching boats into the ocean for inspection and research purposes as well as for ceremonial events such as Fleet Week celebrations. In addition to its traditional functions, Navy Pier has been host to numerous high-profile EVENTS such as the Olympic Games (1988), FIFA World Cup (2002), and Super Bowl XLIII (2013).

Moorpark is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 25,391 at the 2010 census. Moorpark is located on the border of Simi Valley and Carpinteria and shares borders with Thousand Oaks to the east and Westwood to the south. Moorpark was founded in 1884 by John Waddell Moorcock as a small town named after him on his rancho de los Olivos (the Moorocks had properties in that area). Moorpark grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its natural resources: oil wells were drilled here and production increased until 1914 when World War I began; thereafter, because of prohibition, growth slowed until the 1920s when it recommenced due to renewed production from oil wells. In 1932, Harry Chandler purchased land east of downtown which he renamed Moorpark Rancho Park. In 1936 he opened what is now known as La Brea Tar Pits Casino Resort (later known as Palace Station Casino), one of Southern California's first casino resorts. In 1943 both La Brea Tar Pits Casino Resort and Palace Station Casino were placed under jurisdiction of new state regulations limiting gambling dens within City limits; however, these casinos continued operations until 1978 when they were sold off to private interests for redevelopment into luxury hotels/casinos. In 1984–1985, Oriental Land Company began construction on what would become known as Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum – later renamed LA Galaxy Stadium – using money raised from two raffles held at Palace Station Casino (now part of Regal Entertainment Group). The first raffle yielded $415,000 while tickets sold for an additional $1 million generated another $10 million flow through the system; this initial investment led to stadium construction over three years costing $27 million with completion scheduled for May 1986. The original plans called for a soccer-specific stadium which would have seated 50,,000 people but this idea was abandoned because Los Angeles County did not fund it Cementing: "It turned out that there wasn't enough money available either from developer fees or government funds so that [the] project could be completed." After several years of fundraising by various groups including Hollywood Hills Chamber Of Commerce president David Geffen who also partnered with Carson Pirie Scott Associates Architects Inc.,[2] finally in 1992,[3][4] Anschutz Entertainment Group agreed to build a football stadium adjacent to their then-Los Angeles Rams training camp facility which would seat up to 80,000 people instead making use of more than 2 acres surrounding Ford Field in downtown L.A., including rights given by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.[5][6][7] The football stadium portion opened in 1995 as Galaxy Stadium before being renamed Rams Stadium following Super Bowl XXXIV between Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots which took place on January 6th 1999; following Super Bowl XXXVI between New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers played at Joe Robbie Stadium near Las Vegas it was announced that Orange County had acquired all remaining Chavez Ravine property east of Interstate 15 therefore ending any chances for a new NFL stadium there[8]. It should be noted that much controversy surrounded this deal as many feared that Anschutz EntertainmentGroup would sell off Latino neighborhoods adjacent thereto such Lemont or Inglewood resulting in large numbers of low income residents displacement[9].

Moorpark is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. Moorpark was founded on December 20, 1887 by J.P. Morgan and his brother-in-law David Starr Jordan as a small oil town northeast of downtown San Bernardino. Moorpark became an incorporated city in 1915 and changed its name to San Bernardino on April 17, 1927. The population of the city was 81,853 at the 2010 census, up from 62,975 at the 2000 census. The large Vail Indoor ski resort is located within the city limits. The first people to live in what is now Moorpark were hunter-gatherers who migrated from central Asia about 12,000 years ago. They left behind evidence of their presence including pottery and animal bones that have been found near present day Moorpark Boulevard and White Road. In 1887 Rancho Niguel landowner JP Morgan Jr., brother-in-law David Starr Jordan (founder of Sunland Oil) purchased some of these lands from Juan Bautista Pico for $1 per acre (0.50 km²). The first house built in what is now Moorpark was called "Hwy 1" because it was just east of where Hwy 101 meets HWY 190 today north of footbridge over creek which once connected those two highways together. In 1915 when the City's incorporation happened there were only 8 residents living in town proper with 4 businesses - 2 doctors' offices( Drs Pershing & Kapp), 2 undertakers(Wright & Dixon) one grocery store(Granada Bros.), 3 gas stations - all operated by men - 1 blacksmith shop(Raftery Bros.) 2 barbershops(Beard & Shafer), 1 dry goods store/grocery store/drugstore (Fletcher's corner Store). When annexation into the City took place on April 17th 1927 everyone inside or near City Limits moved out onto newly annexed property which included most if not all businesses within walking distance such as: doctor's office; undertaker; grocer; Barber Shop; Drugstore; Red Roof Inn motel adjacent to Clubhouse Playground across from Physical Science Building also later known as First Baptist Church across from post office
