The United States Army deployed gifts to Moraga, California in during World War II. The gift history of the army's deployment to Moraga began with the arrival of American soldiers in December 1941. At that time, General Donovan ordered all military units east of the Rockies to be redeployed to America's new war effort. The USArmy deployments into Europe were not as widespread as expected and there was no need for Gifts to be sent to California. However, throughout the course of 1942 and 1943, Gifts were sent by airmail from San Francisco Bay Area until a new postal service was established in September 1944. This new service allowed for faster delivery and made it easier for USArmy troops stationed in California to receive their gifts. One such Gift was a phonograph record player given to General Leslie Groves by his friend and business associate Harry Donenfeldt on December 8th, 1942. After successfully playing several records from Donenfeldt's collection at Groves' home during January 1943, the player became a symbol of welcome back for American troops returning home after operations in Europe. In addition, numerous other gifts were given by individuals or businesses during this time frame including radios (Taylor Radio Company donated two sets of receivers), cameras (Kodak Camera Company gifted three models), cups (Camber Coffee gave two sets of coffee cups), cigarettes (Lorillard Cigarettes donated five packs of cigarettes) and many more items which can now be seen within Moraga city limits today. Although Gifts were not always necessary or appropriate at this point in time they did provide soldiers with something special and contributed towards morale among those stationed within America's newest conflict zone. Moraga is a small town located in Sonoma County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,874. The Moraga post office opened on February 14, 1848 and closed on December 6, 1957. Moraga is named for General José de San Joaquin Moraga y Salinas (1811-1893), who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as an United States Ambassador to Peru. The first Europeans to visit what is now Moraga were Juan Bautista Elías and his party of Spanish Franciscans from Mission San Francisco de Borja in 1769. They built a small mission hereabouts called Rancho Rinconada which served as a stopover on their way southward from Monterey Bay. In 1823 married Maria Anna Borda and established themselves at Rancho La Ventana where they raised cattle, grapes, orchards and some sixty head of horses. In 1827 they sold part of their rancho including La Ventana to Antonio Nobre for $1,000 cash with instructions that it should be used only for agricultural purposes. Antonio Nobre turned it into one of Northern California's first towns by building a adobe courthouse and brick schoolhouse thereon. He also founded the first store in town--the Anaide Mercado Store--and began selling goods door-to-door throughout Sonoma County. One year after its incorporation as an independent city in 1905 by then Mayor Elias Hillman (1907–1945), Moraga experienced its most significant growth when World War II forced large numbers of residents to flee across the border into neighboring Santa Clara County; many businesses closed during those years due to wartime shortages of personnel and materials necessary for operating a business indoors! After the war ended, many new residents returned but few changes took place until the late 1960s when local officials decided that redevelopment would be key to keepingMoraga alive longterm! A number of shops reopened after being boarded up or torn down over time; several old homes were restored/upgraded with new flooring, paint jobs etc.; schools were built (Bishop Middle School 1978; high school 1984) providing more comprehensive educational opportunities than ever before available within this historically conservative little town! Postwar prosperity brought about increased traffic congestion downtown which led toorchestra performances at Mission High School auditorium each winter evening between 1966-1968As much has been accomplished since then without any public investment so I will not try too hard To document everything - suffice it to say that progress has been made albeit slowly...

Moraga, California is a small town in Central Valley, about an hour north of Fresno. It has a population of around 1,200 people and is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the area. The town was founded by Native Americans in 1853 as part of the Rancho Moraga grant. In 1906, it became a census-designated place (CDP) and was incorporated as a city on December 4, 1912. The Moraga CDP covers an area of , making it slightly smaller than Carson City, Nevada. The population reached 2,455 at the 2010 census. The median household income for Moraga residents was $60,314. About 60% of the people are Hispanic or Latino and 30% are white; 10% are Asian American and 5% are black or African American. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Moraga were Spanish explorers who arrived during the 17th century via land grants from Spain to various Native American groups including the Miwok tribe and Gold Rush miners such as Tom Lubbock and John Sutter. In 1853, Rancho Moraga was granted to José Joaquín Baca y Quadras by Governor Manuel Micheltorena with title to 158 acres (6 km²). After purchasing additional land near present-day downtown Moraga from Baca y Quadras in 1865 through 1870 – including parts of what is now Highland Avenue – Francisco Pacheco established Rancho San Pablo de Anza over 6 square miles (15 km²) east–northeast of present-day downtown Moraga on March 20, 1871 (). Pacheco named his rancho after St Peter’s Cathedral in Buenos Aires Province where he had been born on December 12th 1810 (). After Mexican independence from Spain on February 14th 1821 (), many German immigrants moved into central valley during this time period seeking their fortune under Mexican rule while others came specifically for agriculture which would become Mexico’s biggest industry by 1840 (). Many Germans also started businesses here such as jute manufacturers () and millers (). When war broke out between America and Mexico starting with the Texas Revolution on April 26th 1861 (), many Germans decided to migrate across the border instead of stay behind because they could not support themselves should war continue beyond that point (). On October 15th 1862 Californios surrendered at Monterrey following multiple days Battles Of Presidio Mesa() resulting in more than 120 deaths among Californios () []]. Because much property had been confiscated during these hostilities (), many Germans ended up living elsewhere within Mexico before reaching California . Most settled around San Luis Obispo County ())[]], although some located near Sacramento ())]]. A few dozen families residing at el Rincon del Diablo(), contiguous with present day Mescalero Heights())[]], bought approximately 640 acres (27 km²) northeast ofpresent-day downtown MORAGA for $2 per acre ($/year)), forming what became known as el Rincon Farms ). This parcel extended northeasterly along today's Highways 101 & 237 until its intersection with Washoe Creek southwest ofpresent-day downtown MORAGA; today's El Rincon Road ), forming today's eastern boundary ofel Rincon Farms ]. At its southeast corner lay el Cerritoño Hills (); today's eastern boundaryoftheRincon Farms ]. Some families eventually acquired further acreage westward towards Tuolumne Meadows ()); today's western boundaryofel RinCON FARMSTOWN ). Today muchEl RinCON FARMSTOWN ) remains undeveloped . For several decades beginning in 1915 there existed amethodical housing development called los Olivos () []], later renamed las Brisas ())[]]. Developments took place primarily along Highways 99 & 237 but also included areas west thereof []]. Moraga, California was first settled in 1846 by Father Francisco Javier de Moraga and his wife Agnes de la Garza. The Moraga River served as the primary focus of their agricultural activity and the town's name derived from this stream. The Moraga Mission was founded in 1849 and became one of the most influential missions in northern California. In 1862, the Moraga Adobe was built on a hill overlooking downtown Moraga and is still used as a government office building today. The town experienced significant growth during World War II with many businesses lining Market Street. After the war, development slowed until the late 1990s when new buildings began to rise along First Street. Today, Moraga is a thriving community with a diverse population that enjoys its proximity to downtown Moraga and its easy access to both recreation and shopping opportunities.
