Throughout his career he shot several vintage guns including a Winchester Model 1892 that he personally restored from disrepair. Moraga is a small town in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 2,895 at the 2010 census. Moraga is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River and is home to several thousand people who work in its many businesses. It is also one of the most racially diverse communities in California. The community started as a post office called Moraga Station on July 17, 1847, by Leland Stanford and scheme participant James Irvine. The name came from Spanish words meaning "place where acorns are found." At first there were no buildings or residents because it was only a landing point for travelers on the river. In 1851, four families moved to Moraga from an adjacent community of Shasta City and started farming what would become known as Pleasant Valley. In 1865, local farmer John Capps built a house on current-day Moraga Boulevard which became his home until his death in 1925. Capps had been instrumental in starting the agricultural industry in Moraga and developed many of its products including hay, apples and almonds. He also served as mayor from 1911 to 1916 and 1924 to 1928; he was considered one of the most influential figures in town's history. During World War II, Moraga played an important role as both a military base for United States forces stationed throughout Fresno County (including Brawley) and as a manufacturing center for war materials production throughout California due to its location just downstream from major ports such as Stockton (in Central California) and Sacramento (near San Francisco). Moraga, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 2,427 at the 2010 census. It has been inhabited by the Ohlone people for over 10,000 years. The first Europeans to visit Moraga were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his crew on October 21, 1542. In 1849, the United States acquired Moraga from Mexico in what is known as the Mexican War of 1846-48. At that time it was part of Rancho San Marcos de las Pulgas y Santa Clara de los Cahuillas. After Mexican independence was announced in 1821, parts of Baja California were added to Alta California as part of Nuevo México. On September 16, 1860, during the American Civil War General John Blythe ordered all civilians west of Los Angeles to leave within 72 hours or face military occupation. A group of courageous individuals chose to stay and fight for their country even though they faced great danger. Among these patriots was Major José María Morelos who became an hero after leading a cavalry charge against Confederate forces at Monterrey on October 20th 1862 during the Battle of Palo Alto Bridge. On February 14th 1865 General Grant arrived at Moraga with an army seeking revenge for events at Palo Alto Bridge which had resulted in so many casualties among Union forces including Lieutenant Colonel Jameson Moore’s command unit which lost 116 men killed and wounded along with three officers and 19 enlisted men (the largest loss suffered by any United States unit during the war). Aftermaths left much damage including homes destroyed and whole families displaced; 50% of all farm labors were destroyed; 4 miles of railroad tracks lay wrecked; 120 buildings were burned out; 1 million dollars worth of property was damaged or destroyed." The community rapidly recovered thanks to support from local residents as well as donations from businesses throughout Northern California who saw value in helping rebuild what had been devastated by war and revolution. Restoration work began immediately following General Grant's victory at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 when he signed an order authorizing funding for such endeavors statewide including Moraga specifically citing "this important point" - "It will be but little shortening our time here before we can resume our normal course." With only a few months remaining until Reconstruction ended two years later on January 3rd 1870 when President Andrew Johnson issued Executive Order No 2510 ordering all citizens subject to federal jurisdiction must move back into their original towns or face dislocation and possible demolition if they failed to comply within six months “or suffer such punishment as shall appear just” according to law then in effect as well as existing regulations promulgated since June 5th 1863 pursuant thereto...Moraga quickly resumed its former prosperity although some periodicity still exists today due largely to agricultural production..." Today Moraga celebrates its history with annual events like its Annual Celebration Parade which takes place on Saturday April 12th each year starting around 11am sharp across downtown followed by downtown squareiddown where patriotic foods are served up especially wartime themed dishes like Jell-O shots called Pappy Gouda Shots!
