In 1992, Schieffer and his wife, Lynda Quesada, opened a small café in the old San Francisco warehouse district of downtown Moraga. This was a time when small businesses were starting up all over the city and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf was one of the first. In 1994, Bob Schieffer's son-in-law, Tim O'Connell co-founded ABC Coffee with his wife Astrid Bergman. ABC Coffee is still in business today and sources its coffee from around the world. In 1998, Donny Young founded Donny's Café on Folsom Street in Moraga with his brother-in-law Dan Whitehead as executive chef. Donny's is one of only a few small coffee shops left open in Northern California that specializes exclusively insmall batch roasts of premium coffee beans.
Moraga is a small town in California, located on the Central Coast of the United States. The population was 4,272 at the 2010 census. It is part of Sonoma County. The original inhabitants of Moraga were the Ohlone people, who arrived in 1775 from Northern California. The first European settler to arrive in what is now Moraga was John Sutter, who founded Sutter's Fort near present-day Petaluma in 1835. In 1881, MORAGA CREEK became moragainized when it was annexed by Rancho El Nido de las Palomas and then sold to James Buchanan McNary for $20,000 (). In 1910, the Moraga post office opened and remained open until it closed in 1964. TheMoraga Volunteer Fire Department has been serving the community since 1930. In 1944, MORAGA INDIAN SCHOOLS received a grant from Congress to build two schools: one for Native Americans and one for white children (later renamed Toltec High School). The school buildings were completed in 1945 but were never used because World War II banned most education on indigenous land east of San Francisco Bay. In 1972–1973, MORAGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE received a Congressional appropriation allowing it to open as an all-girls high school with full access to public resources including athletics and student services not available at other local high schools.. In 1978–1979 MORAGA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL opened as a branch hospital of Santa Clara Valley Hospital which had become statewide standards after being featured as one of America’s Top 50 Hospitals by Better Homes and Gardens magazine six years earlier... In 1984–1985 PENINSULAS AIRPORTopened just south of town with plans to allow commercial aviation into the area but this failed due to environmental concerns about air quality within close proximity to towns such as Moraga... Nowadays only agricultural production takes place within town limits while retail shopping takes place off Hwy 101 outside city limits

Moraga is a small town in Butte County, California, about midway between Sacramento and San Francisco. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is located on Moraga Creek within the eastern edge of the Sacramento-San Bernardino National Forest. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.5 km²), all of it land. The first Europeans to visit Moraga were Lt. John Condon and Capt. James Pacheco in 1821 as part of an exploratory party led by Lieutenant Colonel David Wimpole under orders from Governor José Figueroa. A fortified Spanish Mission was established in 1823, called Rancho Los Alisos de Moraga; it included a mission chapel and other buildings for military use including a battery with six cannon and four mortars., rancho boundaries extended into what are now Fresno and Madera counties.. The Mexican Army destroyed most of the mission's infrastructure in 1846 during its occupation of California following Mexico's victory over Spain in the Mexican–American War.. In 1848, General Antonio López Santa Anna ordered all missionaries to leave Moraga before his army invaded southern California because he felt they had betrayed him during his successful uprising against Mexico City leadership.. After Santa Anna's death in 1850, Mexican general Joaquín de la Vega took control over California.. In 1861 Governor Nathaniel Hawthorne issued an executive order designating Moraga as part of Butte County for settlement purposes; this order also designated Moraga Creek as one unit with buttes surrounding it as its boundaries.. In 1907, when Butte County became part of Statewide United States Local Government System through passage of legislation by Ulysses S Grant vetoing Proposition 8 (see History Of California),moragacreek became unincorporated territory within Butte County making it possible for residents to vote on their own local issues without having to answer to county government officials.- In 1912 The post office atMoraga opened with mail service only once daily from Sacramento.; however due to railroad construction nearby there was no need for a post office so senders would just drop off letters at stations along Railroad Street near Railroad Ave
