The navy has a long and varied history in Moreno Valley. The city is home to the USS Newport News (CVA-18), one of three C-2A Greyhound helicopters donated to the United States Army in 1978. The helicopter operates as a research asset for the Department of Energy's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, located in nearby Livermore. It was also used by the Los Angeles Police Department before being donated to the city in 1984. The city's first naval unit was composed of three boats: the SS Pacifico, built in 1915, SS America, built in 1922 and SS Californian, built in 1925. A fourth boat, HMCS Okanagan (CGN 9) was converted into a naval vessel in 1951. Navy deployments have occurred frequently throughout Moreno Valley's history. In 1990, during Operation Desert Storm, USS John F Kennedy(CV-6) arrived at Naval Base San Diego for brief exercises with Marine Corps Combat Aircraft Squadron VMF(Reinforcement) 68 and Helicopter Squadron VH-3D Blue Jay from Quantico Marines Air Station before returning home on December 15th after completing 1st Fleet Carrier Strike Group air strikes against Iraqi targets at Khafjiyah oil refinery and al-Anbar refinery east of Baghdad. On January 6th 1991 USS Diamondback (DDG 71) deployed off Coast of Mexico conducting joint operations with Mexican Navy ship "Lloyd" while providing maritime law enforcement support;Encountering drug smuggling vessels enroute from South America through Central American ports;On February 5th CVW 11 collided with R/V Prestige while underway between Point Conception Island and Ayutla Island near Baja California;In May 1945 USS Enterprise (CVN 66) steamed downbound from Long Beach Harbor bound for Pearl Harbor en route to serve as flagship for Task Unit 55–8 which supported Ground Forces invasion of Iwo Jima; During World War II she operated out of Sayreville NJ squadron commanded by Rear Admiral J H Cummings USNR when she served as flagship for Commander Task Unit 34–1 which destroyed five Japanese battleships & two light cruisers during Battle Of Midway

Mojave National Preserve is a national, preserved area in Mojave Desert, California. It has a total area of 268 square miles (740 km2). Moreno Valley is a small town located in the Inland Empire of Southern California. The population was 12,745 as of the 2010 census, making it the most populous community in Riverside County. Moreno Valley was founded by Spanish settlers in 1853. It became part of Riverside County when it was created from portions of San Bernardino and Orange Counties in 1913. The name is derived from a rancher named José Moreno who settled in what is now Moreno Valley in 1853. The first post office at Moreno Valley was established on December 8, 1854, and remained open until it closed on July 6, 1865. The first store opened at 2335 E Montebello Avenue in 1855. By 1861, there were six stores and 10 businesses operating within the community. The population had grown to over 100 by 1870; however, this growth stopped after a fire destroyed several buildings in 1880. The early years of the 20th century were difficult for Moreno Valley as transportation was difficult to find and maintain reliable access to markets outside of Los Angeles County or San Bernardino County for goods needed for local consumption or export. Although some entrepreneurs began developing new industries such as cattle ranching and farming during this time period, no real progress occurred until World War I when many residents enlisted in the military to serve their country during that conflict. After returning home they resumed their normal lives but faced numerous challenges including high taxes which limited their ability to improve their standard of living even further during the wartime boom period before Prohibition added more financial strain into an already challenging situation During World War II many residents supported American troops through volunteering or joining military forces either through member organizations like Red Cross or Salvation Army chapters specifically targeting soldiers stationed within local communities like Moreno Valley . However following Victory Square victory parade on November 9 1944 most people returned back to their daily routines with just a few exceptions who formed militias known as “Citizen” Soldiers intent on maintaining order while awaiting word from higher up about returning home After World War II ended many residents decided not to return back because they found themselves struggling economically with lower wages available for labor than earlier periods while still remaining subject to government regulations such as residency requirements which made it increasingly difficult for them even if they could obtain employment . Despite these difficulties much progress has been made since then with development efforts focusing primarily on education and healthcare although struggles remain occasional
