In 1868, John Atherton started planting coffee trees on his property in what is now the city of Morgan Hill. He became one of the first farmers to sell coffee beans and provide roasted cups for sale to customers. In 1875, Augustus Saint-Gaudens founded The Saint Gaudens Coffee House in what is now downtown Morgan Hill. His business served as a meeting place for local merchants and investors who bought and sold coffee beans from him. In 1916, The Saint Gaudens Coffee House was destroyed by fire; however, it left behind a lasting legacy. It was later replaced by the present day Starbucks location. The first Starbucks store opened its doors in 1984 in the old Stonington Square Shopping Center on Santa Clara Street in downtown Morgan Hill. At that time, Starbucks was just starting out as an espresso shop with only two machines and six pods per cup! Today, we have over twenty stores throughout California and Oregon! Morgan Hill is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the larger Bay Area Metropolitan Statistical Area. The earliest known inhabitants of Morgan Hill were Native Americans who lived along the banks of the San Joaquin River before migrating to other parts of California. European settlement began in 1847 when Captain John C. Fremont founded El Sobrante on his Rancho Los Pinos in present-day Morgan Hill. The first post office was established in 1851, and by 1861, there were 5 businesses operating within one mile of each other. By 1870, over 25 businesses had been established within a two-mile radius of the original post office. During World War II, many Japanese Americans were interned here as part of the government's wartime relocation program. After Japan's surrender in 1945, many Japanese Americans returned to Morgan Hill and its nearby villages during the postwar years; however, those residents who remained were slowly assimilated into local culture and community life over time. In 1990, then-Mayor Dianne Feinstein appointed current Mayor Jim McDonnell as her successor following her election victory that year. In 2002–2003, Mayor McDonnell led an effort to update and improve city services which resulted in increased property values and more jobs for locals overall; this work continues today under Mayor McDonnell's leadership as it seeks to make Morgan Hill "the most vibrant community in Bay Area." Morgan Hill has been ranked No. 1 out of 650 communities nationwide for livability according to CNNMoney magazine’s “Best Places To Live” rankings list released earlier this year (2013). Additionally, Forbes Magazine awarded Morgan Hill their “Fastest Growing City” award back in 2012/2013 – making it one Of America’s fastest growing cities for young professionals between 20-49 yrs old!

Morgan Hill is a small town in San Mateo County, California. It was founded in 1887 by brothers Cyrus and James Morgan. The original town was on the east side of Mount Diablo, east of Palo Alto. The name was changed to Morgan Hill in 1897 after Cyrus Morgan's death. In 1923, it merged with El Sobrante and Menlo Park to form the city of San Mateo. The first post office at Morgan Hill opened on July 22, 1887. The name change came about because one brother had more than one letter given to him consecutively. Dedicated land for townsite existed since before recorded history, but development around the new railroad station began only after 1887 when an offer from Pacific Railroad was accepted and the town became possible due to its location on the line between San Francisco and Sacramento markets. Construction of the first homes didn't begin until well into 1888 so that families could get settled in before school started for their children in September 1888 (and for some mothers who worked at local businesses). By 1895 there were over 50 homes; 30% were single-family dwellings built by developers themselves or their predecessors (and no doubt others helped out), 60% were multi-unit dwellings such as barracks or bungalows for military recruits stationed nearby during World War I, 10% were farmhouses converted from adobe or other materials available locally, 10% were frame residences erected by sectional interests associated with developments farther away within San Mateo County which would bring needed jobs closer to home while also supporting growth within these neighborly areas; 20% still appear as single-family dwellings today although they may have been rehabilitated using modern techniques such as seismic retrofitting/restoration etc., and 40% are multi-unit dwellings like those just mentioned that have probably seen increased use through current increases in population density along various corridors leading into downtown Morgenthau Square thru which much economic activity takes place now - BARTTrain access & Muni Metro service changes notwithstanding!
