Fresh roasted coffee beans are a centuries-old tradition in Morgan Hill, California. The town was founded on a small farm by George and Anna Merrill in 1875. The Merrill family ran the farm until 1919, when it passed down to their son, Harry D. Merrill Jr., and his wife, Nancie. In 1932,Harry D. Merrill Sr.'s son-in-law, Bob Smith, bought the farm and started roasting coffee beans himself. In 1951,Bob Smith's son-in-law and successor, Tom Doherty took over the business from Bob Smith. Tom Doherty continued to roast coffee until he died in 1982. Since then, the business has been run by four generations of Dohertys. Today's Paxon Coffee Roasters is one of only a few remaining descendants of BobSmith Coffee Company who continue to roast coffee at their original location in Morgan Hill (now known as The Farm). Paxon is also one of only two roasters in Northern California that still uses whole bean coffees for all of its products - this allows for a more consistent flavor across all our blends and cups

Morgan Hill is a town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 12,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The name "Morgan Hill" may be derived from the Morgan River which flows through the town and takes its name from John Morgan who settled there in 1848. Another source says that it derives from a man named Hill who fought in the Mexican-American War and was buried on a hill in what is now Morgan Hill. The first post office opened in 1859 and was called Newton. In 1872, when parts of Contra Costa County were split off to form Marin County, Newton became part of Marin County's new capital city, Richmond. By 1900, most of what is now Morgan Hill had been annexed by Richmond so that its name would no longer reflect its location within Contra Costa County but would represent all of Marin County's growth within that county since then - becoming "Morgan Hills". Mansion Row Historic District contains many early 19th century residences dating back to before 1800 near University Circle (the old campus of UC Berkeley). The district also includes some distinctive early 20th century examples including one built for Jameson Todd as his private residence and designed by supervising architect Samuel Hahnemann with traditional Moorish Revival Style features such as arches and niches on each level decorated with carved stone lions and tigers In 1902–3 two brothers – Harold Wiman (1892-1969) and Jack Wiman (1902-1993) – began construction on one of Northern California's largest shopping malls, an important link between nearby cities like Alameda and Fremont while they continued to run their father's grocery store at 8th & Market Streets until its closure in 1986; this mall later became known as Citrus Heights Mall after both Harold Wiman Jr.'s family businesses merged into Sears Holdings Inc., parent company Kenmore Corporation. Morgan Hill is a town in Contra Costa County, California, located on the eastern edge of the Bay Area. The population was 36,874 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco–Oakland–Hayward metropolitan area. The first European to visit what is now Morgan Hill was Juan Bautista de Anza on July 29, 1769. He named it after General George Morgan who had been with his army during the Mexican-American War and he became very friendly with de Anza. The first settler in what is now Morgan Hill was José Gomez in 1847. Jose Gomez and his wife María founded a small rancho called Rancho Los Gatos which included today's east side of town and parts of today's west side. In 1851, an American cattle drive led by Captain Elisha Peabody passed through this area on their way to Stockton. One group of men from Peabody's command stopped at Rancho Los Gatos for lunch on September 15th, 1851; they were followed by another group that evening when they returned to camp about 12 miles away near present day El Sobrante Cove In1854 two brothers – Jens Christiansen and Ole Christiansen – started a small logging business at Rancho Los Gatos while their father - Ole Christian Christensen - managed the farmsteads around them. They would later become known as "The Brothers". On October 9th, 1860', twenty-six year old John Sutter arrived in California from Illinois via San Francisco and walked up State Street (now Main Street) to where he saw a ad for land grants near Martinez Creek which turned out to be undeveloped land grant #1 (later renamed "Morgan Hill"). He traveled down State Street until he reached Martinez Creek Road (now US 101), took it south until he reachedpresent day Old World Road (now US Highway 101), then walked back upState Street (now Main Street) until he got to where the grant applications had been filed that morning from James Irvine, Edward Muret and Solomon Stirling among others. Sutter purchased 640 acres north of present day Telegraph Ave including what are now east side of town along Telegraph Ave., west side of townalong Westshore Drive and partof Present Day Capitolhill Rd., as well as some buildings adjacent thereto from Samuel Eaton & Company; these properties formed what is today known as Dell'Adda Farms (). "Dell'Adda Farms" were later sold off by Sutter to other investors before becoming partofthe newly created city of San Francisco..On February 14th, 1868', fortyfive year old Donner party traveled through this area en routeTo Rogue Valley bringing over 1 million head Of livestock with them when they ran outOf food in NovemberCalifornia statehood On January 24th following their arrival at Agency Station(near currentday Hayward) they began building an adobeFHouse here called The Donner House."
