In 1859, a group of farmers in Morgan Hill founded the town of Morgan Hill on the right bank of the Santa Clara River. They named their community after General James K. Polk, who had been elected president that year. The town continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1887 when it was annexed by San Francisco.
Morgan Hill is a small town in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 2,821 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern edge of San Francisco Peninsula and borders Richmond to the east and north, Walnut Creek to the west and south, and Menlo Park to the south. The area that now Morgan Hill was first settled by Europeans in 1857 as part of Rancho Pastoria de la Purísima Concepción. After a fire destroyed much of what had been built in 1858, local residents erected a palisade fence around their property with logs from nearby hills. This served as their self-imposed boundary until 1863 when they split off from Rancho Pastoria de la Purísima and granted individual parcels of land to individuals for settlement. The name "Morgan Hill" was given to one of these early settlers by John Cranch, an American who came overland from New England in 1847. Cranch found grazing land near present-day Morgan Hill but did not move into it until after his purchase had been verified by surveyors appointed by Mexico City. Shortly thereafter he met James Humes who sold him 6 acres (2 ha) on which Humes lived until his death in 1872. From here Humes' heirs developed a farming operation that continues today. In 1865 two brothers named George Huffman bought 5 acres (18 ha) adjacent to where Humes lived for $5 per acre ($/ha). They began cultivating corn, beans and other crops before selling off some plots in 1870-71 for $100 each ($1 million total). Their profits allowed them to build up a large ranch house on what is now Ridgeway Avenue which they occupied until 1898 when they sold it for $580,000 ($10 million total). In 1907 Edward Doheny purchased 3 acres (10 ha) northwest of where Huffman lives for $225 per acre($/ha). He began developing this tract into an agricultural community which would include retail stores, schools and homes soon after its purchase although initial plans called for it instead to be used as airfield storage or commercial spaceport development! In 1915 former Mayor Elihu Root decided that Morgan Hill should become its own incorporated city Limits within San Francisco proper despite objections from then Mayor Frank Lowenthal because “it has always been more intelligent than any other locality within our limits”; however Lowenthal opposed annexation because he felt that Morgan Hill should annex neighboring cities such as Daly City or Hercules so as not leave them behind economically during times of growth while also maintaining certain autonomy within municipal boundaries like zoning regulations etc.. The incorporation proposal passed overwhelmingly with about 60% approval although there were dissenting votes including Lowenthal's own son HarryLowenthal who argued that annexation would mean less opportunities for young people living outside Of Main Street while also leading to increased crime rates since businesses would be able to move closer without fear of regulation thereby reducing job security etc.. On July 1st 1916 Morgan Hills became an unincorporated territory administered by San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District No.(now Muni) through its predecessor agency Pacific Gas & Electric Company

Morgan Hill is a small town located in Sacramento County, California. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento-Arden-Arcade, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name of the town comes from Edmund Morgan who settled there in 1851. The area now known as Morgan Hill was first settled by Native Americans in the 16th century. The first European to visit what is now Morgan Hill was Pedro Fortunato on his way from Mexico City to Tonasket on October 9, 1565. he named it El Cuchillo because of its height and steepness overlooking San Joaquin Valley. In 1851, Edmund Morgan arrived in present-day Morgan Hill and started Rancho San Miguel de Allende which became one of the largest cattle ranches in California after passage of the Land Act of 1850 which gave incentives for settlement east of Interstate 5. In 1854, James Waddell bought Rancho San Miguel de Allende and founded Waddellville near present day Diablo Lake according to oral history preserved by rancher John Wesley Harding Sr.. Waddell also built a dam across Diablo Lake that still stands today providing water for irrigation purposes and power generation until 1974 when it was replaced by an electric power plant. By 1861, about 60% of all beef cows were being raised here in what became called "the Great Belly". A large dry goods store and post office were built around 1865 by committee chaired by George Hearst with advice from Mayor Thomas Day (1814–82). When Gold Rush fever swept through Northern California during 1849–51, many people left their herds behind to Mine Creek Station where they stored bullion whilegold prices fluctuated around $1 per pound gold standard or $10 American dollars troy weight at that time (USD). Many men returned home with new investments including Matewan entrepreneur John Sutter who purchased some 2 million acres (800 km²) west of Sacramento Valley along Mono Creek between 1863 and 1865 for $640 per acre ($20 million adjusted annual value Today). At this point Sutter had control over most land within Yosemite National Park except a narrow strip along THE EAST COAST OF CALIFORNIA running south from Soda Springs through Big Sur to Half Moon Bay then east past Muir Woods into Marin County before terminating at Sausalito Harbor on Thursday Island; but his holdings included only about 10%of modern Yosemite National Park land which he did not own outright although he may have been aware or interested in its potential mineral resources."
