The Morro Bay Air Force Base Museum is a history-rich museum located on the east side of Morro Bay, California. The museum documents the history of the Morro Bay Air Force Base and its predecessors, which include NAS Morro Bay (later NAS Alameda), CA. The base was founded in 1942 as NAS Alameda, and it served as an airfield for the United States Army during World War II. After the war, NAS Alameda was used by various military services until it was turned over to the Air Force in 1951. In 1966, Morro Bay AFB became part of USAF Headquarters Third Air Force and it remained that way until 1990 when it merged with other USAF commands to form Unified Command Pacific. During its time at AFB Tripler, NAS Alameda played a leading role in developing aerial refueling technology for both aircraft and tanks. In addition to its historical importance, NASAlameda has been host to many memorable events over the years. In 1958, President Eisenhower visited Modoc County to review Operation Arrowhead exercises being conducted at NASAlameda; he later calledNASAlameda "the best airfield I have ever seen." Also in 1958, NASCAR's first race took place at NASAlameda when Bobby Unser won his first race there. In 1969-1970, NASA staged Apollo 11 launches from NASAlameda; these missions were videotaped and preserved forever on video footage now held by NASA's Johnson Space Center archives.]]> The museum also features exhibits about weather modification techniques used by the USAAF during World War II; air shows presented by local aeronautics clubs; and a collection of vintage airplanes available for publicgarship or restoration.]]>
The USAF has a long and proud history of providing support for the nation’s military and security forces. Today, the USAF is responsible for more than 60,000 men and women who serve in over 150 countries around the world. The USAF’s mission is to provide air power to defend America and its allies from operations by any enemy or non-state actor, whether it be against land, sea or air forces. Airpower has always been an important part of US military strategy. The first use of aviation as a tool for war was during World War I when American pilots bombed German targets with airplanes. Airpower was also used in Korea and Vietnam where planes were instrumental in pushing back enemy forces. Today, airpower is again an essential tool in US military policy. The USAF provides strategic bombers, fighter jets and missiles to support Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), which is conducted in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and other parts of the world. This effort includes airstrikes on militants positions as well as ballistic missile deployments throughout NATO member nations. Airpower has also been instrumental in conducting Operation Neptune Spear, which took place in Afghanistan last year. This operation involved the deployment of F-35 Joint Strike Fighters to help fight off Taliban insurgents while also denying them access to surfacetoair missiles

In 1945, Eglin AFB became operational as an operational military airfield and it played a critical role in America's victory in World War II. The postwar years were troubled for the AFB with missions such as Project Paperclip, which resulted in many American pilots being sent to train in Japan during the war years. However, things came to a head at Eglin AFB when General Curtis LeMay assumed command of USAF during the Korean War and decided that America needed more bombers so he ordered all bomber aircraft at Eglin AFB to be scrapped. This action caused significant protest fromirlfriend groups who argued that this was deeply unfair since many of these planes had flown for America in their prior wars. Ultimately, General LeMay reversed his decision and allowed some of these planes to be restored and used again within the USAF fleet.
Moro Bay is a small town in Southern California, located on the southern coast of San Francisco Bay. The town was founded by Portuguese settlers in 1849 as part of the Rancho Morro Bay mission. It became an incorporated municipality in 1907. The name comes from the Mexican word for "Moor" or "Rocky Point". The area around Morro Bay has been inhabited by humans since at least 10,000 BC. Evidence suggests that early ancestors of the local Native Americans hunted and gathered seafood hereabouts. In 1849, some Portuguese colonists founded a rancho named Morro Bay after reaching its present site by sailing down San Francisco Bay. They were looking for land to build a mission and found suitable harborage at this point on their journey southward from Monterey Peninsula. In 1907, the city of Morro Bay was established as part of San Francisco County, California with boundaries extending into Baja California Sur. At that time, it was one of only two incorporated municipalities within San Francisco County (the other being Oakland). Incorporation marked the beginning of an era when municipal government began to play an important role in both public life and economy in Northern California counties during the Progressive Era. Today, Morro Bay continues to be one ofSanFranciscoCounty's most vibrant communitys with rich cultural heritage and active nightlife experiences; its residents are known for their friendliness and outgoing personality traits.
Airforce gift history goes back to the early days of the Air Force. The USAF was formed in 1947 as a result of the Second World War, and part of its mission was to protect America’s airspace. In 1957, the USAF adopted an official policy that no military branch could provide air defense without cooperation from other branches of government. This doctrine became known as “the Three Musketeers Doctrine.” It ordered joint commanders to work together for mutual defense, and it forbade any individual member of the USAF from providing air defense alone. This policy led to some built-in weaknesses in Air Force aviation that were exploited by enemies during the Cold War years. One key weakness was that fighter jets were not very good at bombing targets deep inside enemy territory. The USAAF had also used bombers and missiles against Japan during World War II, but this type of warfare was much more difficult than fighting on land with traditional infantry forces. To deal with this problem, Air Force planners developed a new way to fight air war called “ Combined Task Forces (CTF).” A CTF is made up of bombers, fighters, helicopters and artillery batteries working together to bomb strategic targets deep inside enemy territory. The first successful use of CTF occurred in Vietnam when American planes destroyed five bridges overran North Vietnam while operating under a code name called Rolling Thunder. This operation helpedrain fresh blood into Air Force aviation and demonstrated that combined forces could be successful in battlefield situations far beyond what had been done before

The town of Morro Bay was founded on November 2, 1851 by Captain John Sutter with the goal of providing a safe haven for settlers during an often hostile environment along the coast. The town quickly grew into a thriving community with many businesses and homes. After years of development, Morro Bay became a major port for goods arriving from all over California. Today, Morro Bay is known for its wide variety of seafood and wine-making opportunities as well as its beautiful views ofthe bay and surrounding hills.
