With the holiday season upon us, it is timely to reflect on the past history of military deployments in Morro Bay. This small town located on the California coast has a long and proud military history dating back to World War II. The town was once known as an important stop on the smuggling trail between Mexico and California. As a result, defense installations were established here during the war years. One of these was Camp Pendleton, which was used for training by both American and Japanese troops. In 1951, when Morro Bay became part of California, Camp Pendleton's role changed from a wartime base to a state-of-the-art installation housing both the Army National Guard and Marine Corps units. Today, Camp Pendleton continues its longstanding role as a major training ground for America's armed forces. During the 1960s, Morro Bay began to experience another influx of soldiers from abroad in connection with U2's song "The Joshua Tree." This time around, there were also plans for an armoured brigade stationed here in order to support Operation Neptune's Spear – NATO's effort against North Vietnam – but this plan never came to fruition due to budgetary constraints. However, when Desert Storm broke out in 1991–92 and Operation Just Cause followed soon afterwards – Morro Bay saw some very active US military activity. During these two wars, approximately 2200 servicemen from across America served at various locations within our community (including Camp Pendleton). It is worth noting that many of these soldiers volunteered their services; they did not receive any financial compensation for their service. In recent years, however, increased attention has been paid to local communities like Morro Bay when it comes to military deployment gifts coming through their doorways. For example, last year local businesses decided that they would no longer sell products related to war or conflict; instead they would celebrate peace through wellness and friendship donations! On January 1, 1880, Morro Bay became part of Los Angeles County when all but about two-thirds of the county's area were added to it from Santa Clara County.
