She opened this store near where Congress Avenue meets Pacific Boulevard. At that time, there were no seashores in Morro Bay and only a few small boat docks- so Mrs. Larkin decided to offer customers access to those assets through her store! Over time, The Gilded Cage Trading Company became one of the most popular maritime gifts stores in town because they offered unique sales and promotions on all types of gifts related tothe ocean including anchors, boat parts, lighthouse gear and more! In 1951, The Gilded Cage Trading Company relocated from their original location on Congress Avenue across from Stonington’s Castaway Theater into what is now known as The Attitude Shop on North Beach Street in downtown Morro Bay! At that time, Attitude Shop was home to one of the most popular gift stores in town because it offered unique sales and promotions relatedto everything related to boating such as anchors, boat parts and more! Today’s Attitude Shop offers visitors an intimate view into Marineland’s archives with over 2 million pieces collected between 1914-1957! Among theseitems are Maritime Memorabilia dating back centuries including examples of both commercial vessels ASW gear AND personalintage letters written by captains/owners/crewmen aboard their vessels during wartime!
