The USS Morro Bay was the first submarine to be deployed in World War II. The submarine was launched on October 10, 1941 from Naval Station Newport News, Virginia and arrived at San Diego on November 9th. The USS Morro Bay operated out of San Diego for the rest of the war.
Morro Bay is a small town located on the southern coast of California. The town was founded in 1847 by Captain John Richardson and his wife, Anna Maria. The Richardsons named the town after Morro Castle in Sicily, Italy. The castle was destroyed in 1860 during the American Civil War, but its ruins were preserved and now serve as a tourist attraction. They arrived in San Francisco from Naples, Italy in 1849 and soon began to establish themselves as merchants and traders. In 1858, Captain Richardson organized a group of Spanish-speaking farmers who called themselves Las Flores de la Mesa (The Flowers of Morro Bay). This group helped to create the first Anglo-Saxon community on the mainland United States. The Richardsons descendants continue to live here today and are known for their entrepreneurial spirit and strong sense of family tradition. In 1955, Morro Bay became part of California when it was added to the State of California as part of its efforts to attract new residents to its expanding population. Today, Morro Bay remains an agricultural center with significant businesses focused on produce farming, seafood processing, cattle ranching, tourism development, and research facilities across a variety of fields including biotechnology and biomedical engineering.

Morro Bay is a small, unincorporated community in Marin County, California on the system of Morro Bay Coast Ranges. It lies at an elevation of 10 feet (3 m). As of the 2010 census, its population was 194.
The Morro Bay area is located in the northeastern corner of California, and includes the towns of Morro Bay, Salinas, and open space along the coast. The region was first settled by Native Americans in the early 18th century. The first European to visit the area was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 25, 1542. In 1821, Mexico won its independence from Spain, which led to a period of rapid expansion for Mexican settlers in California. In 1846, following America's victory in the Mexican-American War, Mexico ceded California to the United States as part of a Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty also provided for American control over Monterey County and portions of Sonoma County. After California became an American state in 1850, Morro Bay became one of its most developed areas. In 1860, local citizens formed a town government and began developing land around Morro Bay into what is now known as Portola Valley Township. By 1870, many small businesses had been established inMorro Bay and surrounding communities; this growth helped spur development along coastal Highway 1A throughout much of that decade. By 1880, all but two outposts on Highway 1A were built within portola valley township boundaries; these outpost sites are now Presidio National Park headquarters and Golden Gate Bridge visitor information center respectively. In 1906–1907 during World War Icallback fires destroyed most of San Francisco Island including parts near present day Daly City and so large quantities of salt water seeped into inland valleys creating fill later called "Morro Bay"
