The United States Air Force (USAF) is one of the largest and most versatile air forces in the world. With over 154,000 personnel and 120 bases across the country, it is a prime provider of air support for both military operations and homeland security. The USAF has a rich heritage dating back to World War I when fighter planes were used in combat against German Zeppelins. In 1950, the USAF was created as a merger of the Army's Air Service and Navy's Fleet Air Arm. The USAF has played an ever-changing role in American history, serving as both an adversary and ally during wars from Korea to Afghanistan. Today, the USAF continues its traditions of excellence by providing unmatched air power support to our allies and enemies around the world. The first time the United States Air Force bestowed an honors gift on a person was to General Curtis LeMay, who became commandant of the USAF in 1951. The USAF awarded General LeMay the rank of four-star general in 1955 and made him a Vice President of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. In 1957, General LeMay was named Commander in Chief, United States Air Forces Europe.
Mountain View, California is a city in Northern California. It lies on the western edge of San Francisco Bay, near the Bay Bridge and other downtown landmarks. The population of Mountain View was 128,362 as of the 2010 census. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Mountain View were Jedediah Smith and his party who followed the Pacific Coast Trail from Oregon in 1841-42. They named their new settlement after President John F. Kennedy’s father, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., who also happened to be then living at Yerba Buena Cove on Potomac River in Central Virginia. The town site was surveyed by Lieutenant James Wadleigh and others under Colonel George Condon during March 1846 and authorized by Governor Richardson on October 15, 1847. A post office called Garden Grove was established at the junction of present day Maclay Drive (now Orchard Road) and Russian Hill on December 12th, 1847; it changed its name to Mountain View on January 8th, 1850. A group of United States citizens founded Palo Alto about 100 yards east of where Maclay Drive meets Russian Hill on February 14th,1881; they changed its name to Mountain View due to local objections to Apple Inc.'s earlier decision to call their product "Palo Alto." A charter for the first general store open in what is now Mountain View was issued February 28th; it sold groceries and hardware starting April 1st. On May 5th, 1886 an act authorizing incorporation as a city arrived from Sacramento via mail from Mayor George Parkman with instructions to have a meeting within two weeks around which “a committee should select such officers as they believe would be most effective in carrying out [the] object proposed” Of that committee only one member attended – Drury Chafee – who recommended incorporation without further ado On November 3rd 1860 City Council met behind City Hall across High Street from Telegraph Avenue; council passed an ordinance incorporating as a city with full powers over all branches including education Amendments effected by an act approved November 10th 1862 limits Powers granted initially were: Fire Department (which became part of San Francisco Municipal Railway), Police Department (later County Sheriff's Office), Library System including four branch libraries plus one connected through telephone line (opened 1861), Sewerage & Water Services
The USAF gift history goes back to the first days of its existence. The United States Air Force was founded on September 18, 1947, as a result of the American Civil War. At that time, the USAAF consisted of only 50 aircraft. However, within 2 years it had grown to 1,500 planes and 20 stations across the country. In 1951, President Harry S Truman placed an order for 5 Boeing 707 airliners in order to provide airlift for the Korean War. This was one of the earliest orders placed with Boeing by the USAF and helped contribute to America’s victory in that conflict. In 1957, Congress passed legislation authorising unlimited appropriations for research and development (R&D) within the USAF. This led to world-renowned advances in aviation technology such as jet propulsion and radar systems. During World War II, both Nazi Germany and Japan had developed advanced aircraft technologies which were later used by their enemies during wartime. As a result, many important patents related to Aircraft Technology were acquired by both countries during this period. Many of these patents have since been lost or are no longer extant but some remain archived at various institutions around the world including NASA Ames Research Center in California – where they still lay dormant until recently! Following World War II, USAAF contractors played an important role in developing new fighter planes such as Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters and Douglas A-10 Thunderbolt bombers into integral parts of successive US military campaigns throughout Europe and Asia - ultimately leading to America’s Cold War victory against Soviet Russia! During this time also arose some very influential aeronautical engineers who went on to develop ground-based missile launch systems (GBMLS), space exploration capabilities etc., all while working on behalf of both Nato member nations as well as other international organisations! Some examples include: Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin Jr., 60th anniversary edition; Kechelek Efendi; Clifford Berryman & Orville Freeman; Jacques Cousteau; Hernando de Soto... To name but a few!

Mountain View, California is a city located in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 493,636 as of the 2010 census. It is the fifth-largest city in San Francisco and the largest city on the Peninsula. As of February 2016 it had an estimated GDP of $236 billion. The name "Mountain View" is first recorded in 1856 as part of a local land deal and originally meant only forested hills nearby. In 1887, when the town voted to become a city, its founders named it after Mount Greylock (the highest peak in Contra Costa County) because they believed that this would make it more attractive to people who wanted to live near major metropolitan areas such as San Francisco.
In 1879, a group of entrepreneurs led by Eli Cockerell founded the city of Mountain View. The first store in town was opened by Cockerell and his partners, John Dooley and James Bell. The city's first mayor was J.D. Payne. In 1886, Mountain View became an incorporated town with a population of 350 people. Mountain View was home to the California Institute of Technology from 1902 to 1919 and again from 1929 to 1933; it also housed the University of California at Berkeley from 1912 until its move to Berkeley in 1919. In 1915, the United States government acquired land near Sunnyvale for use as military airfield 191st Bombardment Wing (AAF) headquarters during World War I; however, no buildings were built and the property reverted back to civilian control in 1922. In 1938, Mountain View annexed part of Palo Alto so that both towns had a combined population of 2,500 citizens. Mountain View grew rapidly after World War II with an influx of veterans returning home from service in Japan and Korea and new industry such as semiconductor technology development on various campuses within UC Berkeley’s then-new school system called “The Open Road” which followed World War II campus expansion plans developed by educators George Crocker and Robert Thornton. As world demand for electronics products increased post-war there was significant growth in technology companies such as Hewlett-Packard (HP), Intel, Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), AMD etc., many located throughout downtown Mountain View including Googleplex (later known as YouTube). However much faster than other Silicon Valley tech cities like San Francisco or Stanford this growth came at great social cost with density levels increasing along with housing prices skyrocketing while quality declined leaving many young workers without affordable homes or job opportunities upon their return home following technological advances such as email/web design/microprocessor chips etc.. A major issue facing the city during this time was lacklustre transportation infrastructure which made getting around difficult for most residents including students attending local universities who often relied on BART or Muni for transportation even if they could afford it; note that today BART does have some limited high speed rail services available but these are commuter rail services only servicing southern Oakland County rather than central LA County where much larger employment areas are found
