Mountain View, California is a town located in the San Francisco Bay Area of northern California. The population was 24,651 at the 2010 census. The history of Mountain View dates back to 1878 when it was founded as a small rancho by two surveyors, George Cripe and James Waugh. The first store in Mountain View was opened in 1879 by Waugh and his brother-in-law, H.B. Woodward. In 1886 the town became part of the City of San Francisco through an act of the state legislature. The city's first coffee shop opened on Market Street near Union Square in 1907 and soon became one of the most popular places to buy coffee in town. By 1923, Mountain View had its own grocery store and iced tea shop named after businessman Sidney Hillman who also donated land for a park which now houses Mountain View High School (now known as Stanford University). In 1937, during World War II, Mountain View joined forces with Berkeley, CA to form what would become the Bay Area Radiation Laboratory (later known as UC Berkeley), which helped develop early warning technology for America's war effort. In 1978, Google organized a Stampede Coffee Festival in honor of their new corporate headquarters located adjacent to Google Earth Park - becoming one of only a few events where coffee beans were actually ground up and used as part of production! Over time more events have been organized including Open House Days (featuring demonstrations from local roasters), Apple Day (when special pricing is available on select products from Apple products), and even Christmas Tree Sales!

The following year Facebook opened its doors to students once again with Menlo Park becoming their main campus north of Interstate 280 until Zuckerberg bought land east of I-280 for $1 million in 2004 which became Facebook Research Campus#2 later that year. Later still, Zuckerberg purchased another piece of land south of I-280 which became Ideation Stadium where he started Facebook HQ#3 before selling it off to TechCrunch founder Demis Hassabis for $500 million in 2018; making him one of the richest men ever born! In 1957, when San Francisco annexed Mountain View, it granted its citizens city rights. Since then, Mountain View has grown rapidly to become one of the most populous cities in Silicon Valley and one of the most diverse communities in California. Mountain View's history can be traced back to its early days as a small farming community near Stanford University. Between 1875 and 1914, mountain VIEW residents raised crops and cattle on 640 acres (248 hectares). This agricultural operation was supplemented by manufacturing during World War I when war materials were shipped through Menlo Park from China; during World War II when military bases were established in nearby Livermore and Newark; and again during the postwar yearswhen industry grew quickly at local companies such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Intel (INTC). In 1975, following passage of the Santa Clara County Charter Revision Act that gave cities control over their own affairs outside of San Francisco's jurisdiction, Menlo Park Mayor Edward Condon proposed that Mountain View make itself a separate municipality with its own police department and fire department. The measure passed 7–1 with majority support from City Council Members Dianne Feinstein (D-San Mateo), Don Rosenberg (D-Oakland), Barbara Lee (D-Los Angeles), John Avalos (D-Santa Cruz), Steve Zimmermann (D-Milpitas) and Rick Sanchez (D-Cupertino). Mountain View, California was founded in 1887 by John C. Fremont and his wife Lucy. The town was named for Mount Allison, a mountain near the town's original location. The first post office in Mountain View opened on December 12, 1887. In 1893, the town became part of Palo Alto County. A year later, Mountain View incorporated as a city under the name of San Francisco. That same year, the City Council passed an ordinance establishing public daylight saving time in San Francisco so that residents would have some control over their clocks during wintertime.
