The Air Force has a rich history in National City, California. The city was first established as an air force base in 1935 and the airport was opened in 1941. The Air Force has continuously operated here since World War II. Today, the Air Force operates two main bases here- Joint Base San Luis Obispo- El Centro and former Travis Air Force Base. In addition to these, there are several other units located throughout the city that support the military effort. In 1941, National City became one of only a few cities in California to be served by the United States Army’s 5th Infantry Division (later 1st Infantry Division). This unit arrived from Utah and was assigned to Headquarters U.S. Army Forces Northwest at Fort Meade, Maryland until its redeployment to National City on October 15th of that year. At this time, it was America’s first permanently activated Army divisional headquarters west of the Mississippi River. It is interesting to note that for most of World War II, National City was home to both the majority of American fighter pilots training for combat against Japan and also overflow crowds waiting for military parade events downtown (eager spectators would line up hours before parade times). Today, both these aspects continue as part of local history; during peace time much of Fighter Wing activity takes place out at Edwards AFB outside Orange County while active duty USAF aircraft fly over Santa Ana Airport以 nearby downtown Los Angeles providing coverage during major storms or ceremonial occasions such as President’s Day or Veterans Day Parade

On October 13, 1943, the United States Air Force bestowed its first gift of an airplane to National City Airport. The North American P-51 Mustang was donated by Aeronautical Division commander Colonel Harry W. "Hap" Arnold.
National City is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 71,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area. The current mayor and City Council are Darrell Steinberg and Kevin Faulconer. The first humans to arrive in what is now National City were buried in the nearby hills until excavated in 1934 by archaeologists from the University of California at Los Angeles who named them "Nahua". They lived there for about 10 years before moving to what is now downtown San Diego. Archaeological evidence indicates that Nahua traders traveled through this area as early as 1000 AD. In 1542, Rancho Rinconada was sold to Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for $2,500 by Santiago Alvarado. At this time, Mission San Marcos was built on the site of modern-day downtown National City and it would be under Mexican rule until 1821 when it became part of English territory following their victory over Mexico at battle of Buena Vista Hill. After Mexican independence was granted on March 14th 1821, Missions Santa Maria de Loreto and Nuestra Señora del Carmen were established here while mission San José continued operations until 1846 due to fighting between American settlers and Mexican troops across the border during the Mexican-American War In 1850s an agricultural community began forming around what is now Midway Park with workers coming from Gillespie Heights (now Escondido) and Imperial Beach because there wasn’t enough water available east of Mission Bay for agriculture or industry outside of San Francisco Bay Area due to flooding caused by Typhoonitime Events such as Hurricane making landfall along Southern California Coastlines in October 1861 followed by devastating waves washing away entire communities eons later including Imperial Beach which left more than 2O people dead along Orange County coastline where most homes were destroyed or greatly damaged leaving few standing if any buildings remaining today excepting Midway Park which still stands today despite being ravaged by fire twice since its formation over 150 years ago! This farming region would become known as “Gateway Valley” with many developed towns such as Del Rey Oaks (now Huntington Beach), Spring Grove (Winnetka), Yorba Linda (now Anaheim Hills), Thousand Oaks (northwest Irvine), Garden Grove(southwest Glendale), Camarillo(in Ventura County) developing near major freeways exits including I-5 & I-10 etc., but nothing came close to NAHUA MOUNTAIN CREEK COMMUNITY until AFTER THE GREAT BUSH FIRE OF 1916 EITHER DID SOMEONE BUILD A HOUSE ON US-101 NEAR WILMINGTON PARK CENTER IN THAT YEAR OR WAS IT EARLIER? WITHIN HALF A DECADE AFTER WORLD WAR II STARTED TO FORM PART OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY WE FOUND OUT THAT NAHUA HAD BEEN HERE BEFORE AND THEY WERE JUST KEPT FROM OUR TOWN BY THE MEXICANS FOR HOWEVER MANY YEARS? NOT LONG AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM WWII WE VISITED THEIR SITE AGAIN AND GOT REALLY INTERESTED IN WHAT THEY WERE DOING THERE! NOW OVER 60 YEARS HAVE PASSED AND THIS CITY IS STILLgrowing! National City sprang up on sand dunes south of present day Midway Park Boulevard after two floods ruined much farmland north of town center in 1916 destroyed local businesses and homes while residents sought refuge within walls created around town limits following World War I—the Great Bush Fire less than a year earlier! With only a handful houses still standing almost all original businesses included three grocery stores two dry goods stores one laundry facility one barber shop one doctorate clinic plus blacksmith shop bakery hardware store post office gasoline station hotel restaurant chapel hospital
Airforce gift history goes back to World War II when the United States Air Force was founded. The USAF was formed in 1947, and during its early years it relied heavily on donated items from various countries. One of the first gifts the USAF received were two Boeing 707s, which were used to provide service in North Africa and Europe. In 1957, another donation led to the purchase of four F-86F Sabre jets. These planes were later used for training missions in South Korea and Okinawa. In 1977, a further donation saw the acquisition of nine Lockheed L-1011 Lodestars. These planes were used for aerial refueling and air defense missions throughout Asia and South America. Over time, donations have come from a variety of different sources, including business entities, individual donors, and governments around the world. Today, the USAF relies heavily on donations from individuals and businesses alike in order to keep its aircraft operational and capable of providing service around the world.

National City was founded in 1847 by brothers James and John National City Land Company, the first company to own land in the city. The company developed a small town around its original store on Mission Street. In 1872, the company became part of the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART). In 1984, BART merged with Regional Air Transportation Authority to form United Airlines. United Airlines operates one of two airfields in National City - Moffett Field and Andersen Air Force Base - which are also used for United's military flights.
