The Coast Guard Gift History in National City, California began on February 15th, 1912 when Captain George W. Bushnell joined the Coast Guard as a Second Lieutenant. He was assigned to duty at Point Loma where he served until 1913. From 1913 to 1916, Captain Bushnell was stationed at sea and during this time he met his future wife Blanche who was working for the San Francisco Examiner Newspaper Company. They were married on December 12th 1916 and together they founded and ran the National City News Service which served as the first coast guard station in San Francisco. In 1928, Captain George W. Bushnell left the Coast Guard to become Assistant Commandant of the Naval Air Station Patuxent River which is now known as Suffolk County Airport. After years of service and dedication to his profession, Captain George W. Bushnell passed away on November 14th, 1978 at age 86 years old

National City is a city located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 85,719 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now National City was made by Spanish missionaries in 1769. Rancho Rincon de la Cañada de los Cucamongas was granted to Francisco Vázquez on April 20, 1776. In 1847, Mexico gained independence from Spain and established its own government, which included National City as part of the new Mexican province of Orange County. In 1911, National City became an independent city when it seceded from Orange County and joined the State of California. The original downtown section of town was built around a rail depot used for freight transport between Southern California and Las Vegas until 1920 when Sherman Kress opened up what is now Kress & Sons department store on Main Street. During World War II, Japanese American citizens were interned during World War II at Camp Verde in adjacent Industry because their homes were being used as military barracks by General Leslie Riggs-Walker commandant at nearby Exeter Army Air Field (now Naval Air Station Miramar). Afterward, Camp Verde became a relocation center for discharged United States military personnel who had nowhere to go except into areas such as Beverly Hills and Arcadia where housing prices were high enough to make living unaffordable to many veterans. As more people arrived during the postwar years they soon outgrew Camp Verde and various other locales served as community centers until all but one incarnation closed within 10 years or so due primarily to economic reasons (the last center closing in 2002).
The Coast Guard has been a part of American society for centuries. The first coast guard stations were set up along the America's East Coast in 1624. In 1916, the first National Coast Guard Museum was located in New York City and included artifacts from both the United States and Great Britain. The first U.S.-owned and operated coast guard station was located in Hampton Roads, Virginia on May 1, 1921. From then until 1978, the Coast Guard operated its own shipyards to build ships for its missions; however, these facilities were closed down during the Reagan administration because of their contribution to federal budget deficits. In 1987, Congress created the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as an independent agency within NOAA with responsibility for national weather Warnings and Climate Prediction Modeling; however, NOAA continued to operate its former coast guard station at Hampton Roads as a rental property used by NMFS (the National Marine Fisheries Service). In 1992-1993, legislation was passed which would create the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)within DHS; however this bill did not receive enough support from congressional members so it did not become law. In 2004-2005, DHS began construction on a new $4 billion port security facility known as Customs & Border Protection’s Port Hubert Airport; however this project never proceeded due to lack of funding from Congress. On October 26th 2006,[1] Hurricane Katrina caused damage to 16 coastal border patrol stations along Louisiana’s Gulf Coast;[2] following this event, President George W Bush announced that all future state department funded ports will be run by DHS instead of state governments.[3] Finally in 2007-2008,[4] DHS began construction on another $4 billion port security facility known as John F Kennedy International Airport outside New Orleans which is scheduled to open in 2020[5]. The name "National City" was given to it by General George Custer during the Battle of Camp Kearny on July 12, 1876, in honor of President Ulysses S. Grant's visit to San Diego that year. The first European settlement in what is now National City was made by Juan Rodríguez Caballero and his men on August 28, 1769 near present-day Broadway and Lombard Streets. The town was founded as a mission station under Spanish auspices but soon became an important commercial center with its own schools and churches. When Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, National City became part of Mexican territory and experienced some turbulence because of this decision. In 1848, American settlers arrived in what is now National City and quickly began developing the area into a thriving town with their own schools and churches. By 1860, National City boasted over 1,000 residents and had started building its own infrastructure such as a post office and hospital. On January 6th 1865 – just one month after California attained statehood – Businessman Alvar Pardo donated land at what is now Broadway/Lombard Street for use as a national military cemetery for soldiers killed during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). This gesture helped inaugurate America's largest post mortem operation until World War II when Memorial Park was established adjacent to Angel Stadium! On May 14th 1886 – two weeks after Calumet Mines were opened – Mayor John Giannini dedicated the new mines with speeches lauding both the local production methods used there (stampede furnace smelting) as well as citizens' contributions to making San Diego County one of the most productive regions in America! In 1898 Union Pacific Railroad built its legendary rail line through downtown National City linking up with major northward lines at Fifth Avenue/Alameda Street corner; this would later become known as "the Central Corridor". With railroad connections came increased trade volume which led to more brick manufacturing operations being set up along Lombard Street including Diamonds & Daggers Brewery whose founder Michael Malone built himself an imposing home on Decatur Street between Flowery Branch Road/Alpine Avenue - becoming one of downtown's earliest boosters! In 1915 Royal Dutch Petroleum Company organized a drilling expedition off Point Loma into Californian shale deposits yielding oil worth millions upon discovery! A few years later Standard Oil Corporation also discovered oil reserves off Southern Coast Highway just west of Downtown NationalCity - fueling speculation about future growth for this burgeoning metropolis! The 20th century brought numerous challenges for NationalCity including World War II when Japanese forces occupied portions of California; Korean War refugees settled here; dense populations caused problems associated with sprawl; economic recession following 9/11; multiple fires across various parts of town resulting in ghost towns designation.; however due to proactive planning by Mayor Royce Youngblood many issues have been resolved or are comingled such as propping up abandoned buildings etc...Today Nationalscall offers plenty amenities unavailable anywhere else like bike racks outside all public transportation terminals so people can ride free!
