As a result of this growth there were many annexation efforts by neighboring municipalities during the postwar years: Alameda County annexed Newark in 1951; Contra Costa County annexed Newark in 1967; Pleasanton annexing Newark Airport (then known as Eastshore Airport) in 1984; Richmond annexing portions of low-lying areas around central business district (CBD) area between 1990-1992). The decline or stagnation of suburban housing interests beginning around 1990 led to an increasein urban-led development throughout much central NJ which has helped make New Jersey one of America’s most diverse states ethnically speaking along with its high quality job market remains strong despite recent statewide economic hardships brought about by global recession
