The United States Air Force operates as a major arm of the national defence system in the United States. The USAF is responsible for providing air and space power to defend the nation, its people and its interests worldwide. Newman, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,847 at the 2010 census. Newman is located on the east side of Kern River and about 15 miles (24 km) north of Bakersfield. Newman started as an agricultural community in 1869 when George W. Newman founded a rancho called Rancho San Bernardino de las Flores y Nogales on the east bank of the Kern River. In 1902, George W., Jr., donated land to create what is now Newman Village on the southern edge of town. In 1960, Henry Moulton Newman Sr.'s son created Newman College which offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in business, education, law, science, and theology. Newman's economy depends on agriculture and its surrounding rural communities that provide jobs for farmers and their families; however, manufacturing has also become an important part of the community's economy over time. The United States Air Force has a rich and varied history that can be traced back to World War I. In 1917, the USAAF was formed as an arm of the Army by Congress. The USAF was first deployed in combat during World War II in support of the Allied cause. The USAF has since become one of the most powerful air forces in the world, with more than 146,000member force – making it one of the most numerous military services in the world. The USAF’s roots go back to 1915 when American commanders decided that a permanent fighter force should be established to protect America’s airspace and interests abroad. This decision marked a significant change in US military strategy, as fighter aircraft had been used intermittently up until then. The first fighters were built at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio, under direction of Lt Colonel James Fenton. These planes were powered by two engines driving four-bladed propellers and flew for only 12 minutes at low altitude before they had to be abandoned due to inadequate range or engine problems. In 1917 Congress passed legislation establishing the National Defense Service School which designed to provide aviation cadets with experience leading fighter squadrons while also training them for future service within anti-aircraft artillery batteries and other ground units. On 1 October 1918, after years of debate and planning by both President Wilson and congressional leaders there finally arrived at Operation Overlord which saw American troops invading France -Operation D-Day -the largest amphibious assault ever mounted on land across any front during World War II! After D-Day, General Dwight Eisenhower assumed command of VIII Corps which liberated Paris from German occupation on 7 May 1945; this event is considered key victory for Allied Forces during World War II! After VE Day (8 May 1945), General Eisenhower took over command of all American forces worldwide! Newman, California is located in the Central Valley of California. It was founded in 1875 by Joseph and Mary Newman and is named for them. The city has a population of about 68,000 people as of 2019. The Newman family had a hand in building many things in the Central Valley. Joseph Newman owned an agricultural enterprise that produced fruits and vegetables, which he sold to local farmers. Mary Newman ran a small textile business. Together, they helped lay the groundwork for what would become modern-day Martinez and San Pablo Counties. Joseph Newman also played an important role in early politics in the Central Valley. He served as mayor of Dixon from 1876 to 1878 and on the board of supervisors from 1879 to 1880. In 1881, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate, serving until his death in 1902. After Joseph Newman's death, his wife became president of the Central Valley National Bank while their son took over management of the farm enterprise (although some say this may have been an embellishment). Many aspects of daily life in today's Martinez and San Pablo Counties were built on foundation laid by Joseph Newmans during his time as Mayor or Chairman of Board at various points during its establishment throughout Central Valley history - most notably when those towns opened up their marketsplaces with produce picked directly from local vineyards; when school districts were formed; when irrigation projects were undertaken; when roadways were constructed; when dams were build; etc... achievements such as these are nothing short of milestones that make our community unique among similar communities across America... Today’s Martinez & San Pablo Communities owe much to their predecessors – both men who made significant contributions not only locally but nationally - chiefly through their sincere dedication to public service and hard work ethic that has characterized them ever since...
Newman was a small mining town in Californian, United States during the mid-19th century. It was located about 25 miles south of Los Angeles on the banks of the Kern River. Newman's population reached around 100 in 1851, but declined to about 30 by 1860. The town stopped prospering after gold discoveries at Sutter's Mill and Gold Rush rush drew attention from eastern miners, who came to Newman for lodging and goods. In 1876, a post office was established here, but closed in 1881 due to lack of mail service. The old mill building still stands today as part of the Newman Historical Museum.
