Maga coffee beans are natives to the Sonoma Valley in northern California. The beans were first roasted and ground by Manuel Magaña, a Spanish settler who arrived in 1846. In 1865, Mr. Magaña’s son-in-law, Francisco J. Camacho, opened the first maga coffee shop in Newman, California. Today, maga coffee is considered one of the most traditional and flavorful coffees available. The first maga coffee beans were grown on irrigated land near Tomales Bay in Vallejo County. After many years of growth and development, the company that now owns and operates maga Coffee was founded in 1988 by Carlos Castilla and his wife Mercedes de la Rúa Castilla with help from their father-in-law Eduardo Gomez y Valdivia. TheCastillas have been running the business ever since; it has now become a familyowned enterprise with over 100 employees located throughout Northern California including Newman and San Rafael Counties as well as Oregon and Nevada! Today, there are many different types of maga coffee being produced all around the world including Indonesia (the Sumatran bean is also used), Mexico City (where they call it “Pulpo”), Colombia (Puerto Rican moka), Venezuela (chocolate liquorica) and Brazil (largest producer). There are also several companies that offer truly unique blends such as Blue Bottle Coffee’s Açai Blend which contains sixty percent blueberry concentrate! Newman, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. Newman is located about 36 miles east of Fresno and 18 miles north of Bakersfield. Newman was founded in 1868 by wagon trainees who came from eastern Oregon. Today, Newman's economy depends on agriculture and its location within easy access to Interstate 5 and Interstate 810. Newman is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 18,451 at the 2000 census. It was founded on January 6, 1907 by Italian immigrants as a small town called New Castle. Newman grew rapidly due to its location near the newly completed Southern Pacific Railroad and its status as a military post during World War II. In 1950, the city's population reached 50,000 and it became an incorporated municipality. The city experienced rapid growth in the 1990s and 2000s following the opening of new shopping malls and other commercial development in nearby Riverside and Westminster cities. However, recent economic trends have caused some losses for Newman City Council members since 2003 when oil prices slumped. In 2016, Newman City Council repealed Proposition 13 which had allowed for large increases in property taxes from residents within the city limits without prior vote or notification to those living outside of town Newman is located at (34.536825, -118.627378). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3 square miles (8 km²), all of it land. As of 2010 there were 18,451 people residing in Newman City: 9% Hispanic or Latino; 11% White; 5% Black or African American; 1% Asian; 0% Native American; 2% Male; 2% female
Newman was founded in 1849 by George Newman and his wife, Julia. The town was named for General John A. Newman who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1857, George Newman donated land to the town for a school. The first school building was built on what is now Beech Street. In 1865, a post office called Newmansville was established in honor of George Newman. By 1870, the population of Newmansville had reached 100 people. In 1875, a store and several homes were built in the town square. The first black person to live in Newmansville arrived in 1876 when Isaac Jepson moved from Sacramento to live with his family in Newmansville. In 1911, the town voted to incorporate as a city under the name of "Newman." On October 1st of that year, Newman became an official city with a population of 2200 residents. By 1922, there were only 400 residents living in Newman; however, it continued to grow rapidly due to its location close to both San Francisco and Oakland Provinces
